Security at tourist hot spots continues to be ramped following Bangkok attacks

BANGKOK, 20 August 2015 (NNT) – Security continues to be tightened up at tourist hot spots in order to ensure people's safety and boost the confidence of tourists in the wake of the bomb attacks in the capital city.

On Wednesday, senior police officers inspected the Soi Thong Lo and Soi Cowboy areas in Bangkok, the two sites frequented by foreign tourists. The inspection followed the previous day's visit to Bangkok's Chinatown of Yaowarat by the national police chief, who also ordered an increase in security patrols.

In Phuket, security officials at Phuket International Airport continue to operate in accordance with the Airports of Thailand's "level 3" security protocol, which is the AOT's highest security level. Airport officials said airline passengers were traveling normally and no cancellations had been made for inbound flights from foreign countries.

In Chiang Mai, a metal detector has been installed and military officials have been set to guard the entrance of Chiang Mai Night Safari. Security personnel were also seen checking for bombs in all vehicles entering the Night Safari on Wednesday. Visitors have reportedly been cooperating with the heightened security measures.

BANGKOK — All lanes have been closed on a stretch of Sukhumvit Road this afternoon while police check a suspicious object near BTS Nana.

UPDATE: Roads reopened after object removed. Matichon reports it was an empty box wrapped in tape and plastic.

All vehicles have been diverted along other routes around the station, according to Traffic Police Radio, while the Skytrain operator announced at 2:30 pm that BTS Nana remains open except for one exit on the Phloenchit side, which has been sealed off during the investigation.
