Teaching Licence - Bachelor of Education

Hi all,

I have bachelor of business from Ireland.

I was told that to get a Teaching Licence to stay in the International school I'm at now, I would need to get a Bachelor of Education first.

Any advice on how to do that?

A B.Ed is a long degree. Might be able do a Post Graduate Certificate faster depending what subjects you majored in. For example if you did Accountancy or Economics to 2nd/3rd year level those would be considered teaching subjects.

The topic's also very interesting for me, got a BA in social pedagogy, but need to find a way to enroll somewhere online for a BA in education.

Is there an accredited online university I could contact? I'd really appreciate to find out what others in such a situation did , or are still doing.

Even A Masters in English from Rajabhat Ubon wasn't good enough for Khurusapha Bangkok two years ago.

I'd already signed up for it and wanted to bite the bitter apple to study on weekends for three years, but a Masters in English, plus more than ten years of teaching experience in Thailand wasn't "appropriate" for the TCT?

Is the one university from the Philippines that offers online degrees with an office in Bangkok still accredited by TCT? I Googled some stuff, but so more I read, the less I want to continue with all the "accredited lifetime degrees..."

There must be plenty of people in the same situation. Any ideas would be deeply appreciated.

I just got hired as a subject teacher in a modest internat school. I had experience in language schools so even though i only have a b of business they took me in,

I ike the job its fun and interesting but over all I have a family and a mortgage here in bkk. I need a stable job!

Lots of accredited online unis out there. Even the 'life experience' degrees are accredited by something. The key is finding one that is recognized by the TCT if the degree is to be vetted by the TCT.

IFUGAO governemnt university from the Phillipines offers TCT approved mainly online post-grad qualifications. It's cheap but seems to be poorly organized. That's irrelevant though if it does the job of satisfying the TCT.

I believe the post-grad qualification offered by St Theresa International College based in Bangkok is also accepted.

And how about if i change schools, do I get an other 2y waiver?

In terms of your future you need to consider if you will be in Thailand long-term. If so the IFUGAO degree is probably your best option and is one of the cheaper options. If you want something that you can travel with the Sunderland or Nottingham PGCEi degrees are better but more expensive options.

Heh yeah man same, just messin around. We're all here doing what we can for our kiddos and families. Hope you find a good program, seems to be a few options available. I'd recommend the one I did, but it's only for American citizens or permanent residents (and yes, it's really silly!).

I've heard of folks getting into some internationals with PGCEi, and being through a Brit institution it's probably well regarded worldwide. However, I've heard the cost is pretty painful.

I know sometimes there are Masters of Education cohorts running from Framingham State University from the states, and it runs around $4500 USD for the program. Wells International School runs a couple of them during their school breaks, which I assume to be in July/August and during the Winter holiday. That may be worth looking into.

I wouldn't be surprised, this is also what I heard through the grapevine. If the paper doesn't say "education" somewhere on it, then typically (from what I've heard) it isn't sufficient for a teaching license. Mind you, I don't hire folks so I have only what I've heard others say to rely on. I mean hell, from the sounds of it lostinisaan's undergrad degree should have covered it.
