Finding A Driver

Featured Replies

For those of you with a driver, or know someone close to you with a driver: what is the going rate for drivers in Bangkok? Do they live with you like your maid, or do they have "hours" that they work for you. What about evenings, weekends, etc? Do you just phone them up and consider it overtime?

How did you find your driver and how do you check out their credentials? Recommendations for drivers (don't need to have an excellent command of english, but must speak in central thai accent)?

My main question is what is the renumeration for a driver (this depends on the terms of employment, I realize, but a range of prices and terms would be appreciated if anybody knows this sort of info)?

With a Garmin Street Pilot you really don't need a driver in Bangkok. But, if you want one just for the convenience of having him/her find a parking place then expect to pay about 10,000 baht per month...more if the driver speaks English. Normally the driver does not live with you...just works hours.

Corkscrew, thats the first dumb post i ever saw you make. Usually i find you an entertaining guy, but what of those guys who work, and have a missus and kids? My wife doesnt drive, and we have a pair of kids. One, 10 months old. What is she to do?

You are right. That was a pretty unthinking reply that I made. Of course, there are many situations when you need a driver....as in the example that you gave.
