The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The National Legislative Assembly will meet to hold opening statements about the retroactive impeachment motion against former Education Minister Somsak Prissananantakul on October 29.

NLA President Pornpetch Vichitcholchai presided over a House session Thursday to consider the impeachment motions against Somsak who was accused of being involved in corruption, thus violating Article 6 of the 2014 interim constitution and Article 56 of the Anti-corruption Act of 1999.

Both the plaintiff and the accused will provide their opening statements on October 29 starting at 10am while NLA members will be allowed to questions both parties until 12 noon of the following day.

This will be followed by the consideration of request for additional witness and evidence from the accused. Somsak said he has made a request for seven additional items to be produced with the first two items being aerial photos and a photo of geographical survey in an attempt to dispel doubt as to how and whether Somsak acquired the controversial house before or after he became Education minister.

BANGKOK: --THE NATIONAL Legislative Assembly (NLA) will listen to opening statements over a retroactive impeachment motion against former education minister Somsak Prissananantakul on October 29.

NLA President Pornpetch Vichitcholchai led a House session yesterday to consider the impeachment motions against Somsak, who is accused of corruption and of violating Article 6 of the 2014 interim constitution as well as Article 56 of the 1999 Anti-Corruption Act.

Both the plaintiff and the accused will provide their opening statements on October 29 from 10am, while the NLA will be allowed to question both parties until noon the following day.

This will be followed by the consideration of Somsak's request for additional witness and evidence. Somsak is seeking permission to produce seven additional evidence items along with the first two items - aerial photos and a geographical survey image - in a move to dispel doubts as to whether he acquired the controversial house before or after he became education minister.

The accused also wants the architect of the house, Pol Lieutenant Kongkarn Chantaprida, to stand as additional witness, adding that the National Anti-Corruption Commission had only estimated the period the house was built.

Separately, the NLA has set up a committee to scrutinise the ethics of Nakarin Mektrairat, a nominee for the post of Constitutional Court judge, to ascertain whether he is fit for the position. The task will be completed in 20 days.
