Police in KL on alert for possible ISIS attack: Report
News Desk
The Straits Times

KUALA LUMPUR: -- Police have credible information about a potential terrorist attack in Kuala Lumpur and have increased patrols in Jalan Alor and surrounding areas in the capital city, according to a report.

The news follows the arrest of several Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants in the past month.

"Yes, we are on alert. More policemen have been sent to the ground," a Kuala Lumpur police source told The Malaysian Insider. "It is believed to be retaliation for the crackdown against the militants."

The US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur advised its citizens yesterday to avoid Jalan Alor and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Australians were urged to avoid the same spots, and also reconsider any need to travel to the coastal region of eastern Sabah.

"The coastal areas of eastern Sabah are subject to a continuing high threat of kidnapping by extremists based in the southern Philippines," an advisory warned.

Malaysian police last month arrested 10 suspected ISIS members in multiple raids across the country.

Those arrested included six security forces personnel, a former interior designer and a kindergarten teacher, it was reported.

The suspects – eight men and two women – were detained by the special counter-terrorism division in six separate areas, including Kuala Lumpur, said the Insider.

KUALA LUMPUR: -- The United States Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has issued a travel advisory for Jalan Alor due to a possible terrorist threat.

In a statement on the embassy’s website on Thursday night, it said the advisory was issued based on credible information regarding a potential terrorist act. It advised US citizens to avoid Kuala Lumpur’s Jalan Alor and the immediate surrounding areas on Thursday.

“For all other locations, the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur reminds US citizens of the need for caution and awareness of personal security.

“In the past, terrorist organisations have on occasion planned their attacks to coincide with significant dates on the calendar,” said the embassy.

It reminded US citizens to remain vigilant while travelling as they may be targeted by extremist groups regardless of the country they are in.

“Review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events and monitor local news stations for updates.

“Maintain a high level of vigilance, take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security, and follow instructions of local authorities,” advised the embassy.

US, Australia embassies warn of terror attack in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — The U.S. and Australian embassies in Malaysia have warned of a potential terrorist attack at a popular hawker street in Kuala Lumpur.

The U.S. Embassy issued an advisory Thursday saying it has credible threat information and urged its citizens to avoid Alor Street, located in a shopping belt in the city center, and its immediate surrounding areas.

It says terrorist organizations had in the past planned attacks to coincide with significant dates, but gave no details.

The Australian Embassy issued a similar alert to its citizens based on the U.S. threat warning.

A police spokesman says a statement will be issued later Friday.

Malaysia has arrested more than 100 supporters of the Islamic State group in the past two years, some of whom were allegedly plotting attacks in the country.

ISIS being sent over to SE Asia to soften up the area in preparation for TPP and The Pivot? Lol And I'm sure the West would like to see SE Asia take it's fair share of Syrian refugees too.

Just musing lol coffee1.gif

I believe most S.E. Asian countries have tried to curtail Islamist extremists. The Phillipines could do more in Mindanao, Malaysia could do more in Sabah. But moderate countries like Malaysia and Indonesia are pulling their weight. As for taking more refugees in these two countries, they are already full of refugees and have been for decades. (including Syrians) Not all refugees in these two countries are put in camps.

" it’s all facilitated by asylum seeker networks"

Interesting the article says the movement of ISIS terrorists is facilitated by the people smuggling networks.

Of course this has nothing to do with Uighurs smuggled through Malaysia via Thailand / Turkey/ Syria/ ISIS, because they are nice Uighurs and can never be regarded as terrorists.wai2.gif
