New Passport

My old passport (UK) is now full although not expired,

I plan to go to BKK and apply for a new one at the British embassy, my existing visa is a one year multiple entry non B (expires september 2007). I want to have the visa transfered from my old passport to my new one,

Does anyone have experience of transfering a Non B visa.

Where do I go?

Do I have to do it in BKK or can I do it at any Immigration Office?

What documents do I need if any ?

How much does it cost?

Are there any pitfalls to be aware of ?

Relax...this is a very common procedure. I know Bangkok and Pattaya immigration do it and assume most other immigration offices too. Just go in with old and new passports and ask them to transfer your visa from your old passport to your new one. Nothing too it. If I recall the last time I did it, there isn't even any form that needs filling out or fee...can you believe that

I did the same a couple of months ago with my new German passport.

When you receive your new passport from the UK embassy, they will void the

old one. They should also give you a letter for the immigration confirming that

the holder of the old and new passport is the same person - you.

With both passports and the letter go to the immigration office in Soi Suan Plu,

fill in the application form (forgot which one, just ask at the counter).

Then enter the main hall, there is a small desk on the right. Give all your stuff

to the officer sitting there. He will transfer all the necessary stamps. No fee!

I don't recall the US Embassy giving me any document stating I was the same person in both passports So don't worry if you don't get one, I don't think the imm. folks require such a document...just the old (cancelled) and your new passport.

What I meant is that embassies likely differ as to their procedures re new passports so you may or may not get such a document. If they don't give one to you it's likely they don't provide such a document so no use asking for one. As I said, I don't recall immigration asking for (i.e., requiring) such a document. (I am sure they will politely look at it if you provide one, however.)

When I got my new passport in Sept 2003, the US Embassy gave me the letter for Thai Immigrations when I didn't need it ... I was only using 30-day passport stamps.

You are probably right, different embassies may have different procedures. But anyway, the letter was

free of charge and the embassy gave it to me without me asking.

When I got my new US passport, I had the folks transfer my visa to my new passport. Unfortunatley, they neglected to stamp my new passport with the proper entry stamp. When I tried to leave Thailand, the Immigration folks refused to allow me to do so, until a higher up stamped my passport (with a post-dated entry stamp). I should have brought my old passport to verify that I had entered Thailand legally.

I feel alot happier about the whole deal, I had visions of having to carry round company papers, tax receipt, work permits, birth certificates, health certs etc etc

Im am also completely gob smacked that there is no fee for this,
