Panadda says PM not decided yet to use single Internet gateway
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- PM's Office Minister ML Panadda Diskul said Thursday that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has not yet made a decision to adopt the controversial single Internet measure yet.

Panadda said Prayut simply ordered a study on the possibility of the measure but it has been rumoured that the measure would be used.

"The prime minister has never uttered a single word that he would use the single Internet gateway system," Panadda said.

Remember, they primarily use Line and Facebook for official announcements.

Another probable climb down. How are the lottery tickets prices? Are the deck chairs arranged on the beaches.. Wow. Such achievements.....

This guy is scary, he opens his big fat gob, without any thought process, then backtracks, when facts come to light.

Yes kind of scary that such an important decision lies in the hands of one man who is a little bit well you figure it out.

What does the opposition have to say about this? Oh wait. There is no legal opposition. Btw what would this have to do with restoring democracy and happiness?

According to the BBC, Thai government websites just suffered a DDoS (denial of service) attack, which IMHO is Thai's protesting against the single gateway (secret) plan.

Evidently the Grand Poobah has to make the final decision on everything.

I love the "transparency" of this "Great Firewall of Thailand" project.

Absolutely nothing, but control information, control the masses.

My question is this. If he doesn't plan on holding on to power indefinitely like he keeps telling everyone, what would be the reasoning behind such action? Something sneaky is going on behind closed doors.

"The prime minister has never uttered a single word that he would use the single Internet gateway system," Panadda said.

The problem is he has stepped on so many other freedoms that people assume this fits right in with all his plans to lock the country down until there is no more opposition to his rule.

PM not decided? I support (in theory) what the junta is trying to do, but nonetheless it's not a tyrannical dictatorship, is it?

Read the interim Charter and this will dispel any doubt. The current charter vests all power in the head of the NCPO. That would be the PM at the moment.

The internet is so slow here-all to do with lack of investment in umdersea cables

"The prime minister has never uttered a single word that he would use the single Internet gateway system," Panadda said.

Yet this was what was being reported only last week.

"General Prayuth’s cabinet ordered the ICT and Justice Ministries and the National Police Department to set up a single internet gateway in order to control inappropriate websites and to control the flow of information into the country from overseas via the internet.

A subsequent cabinet resolution ordered the agencies to report back with any laws that would need to be enacted or amended prior to setting up the single gateway."

His lips were moving, which is a dead giveaway.
