This post is not a wind up. Like a lot of us I have time on my hands. Never done charity work, but here is my question. Are there any support group in Thailand that helps people banged up in hospital. Could be ill health or accident whatever. All be it from a stranger, they could visit for whatever assistance might help. Could be just a chat or type some emails etc. Anyone done this ?

Never actually done it, but with the "no visiting hours" as such at Hospitals, I would think it would be quite easy and worth while thing to do.

Thanks Robert. Your post made me think it might be good in pairs , so to speak to relax all sides. Had to explain but bit like A to Z...it could be as simple as someone in some sort of accident. Most likely traffic.

Then xpats interested could visit and at very least act as link to family 're situation and needs.

I'm thinking this might have been triggered by my son currently traveling South Americia. Anyway back to the point. Seems so many accidents occur from traffic and many other ways.....would be nice to help.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but in a "no good deed goes unpunished" vein, would a special visa be needed? I'm just thinking about the well-intentioned foreign volunteers who wanted to help in any way possible after the Boxing Day tsunami. They were told to cease and desist unless they had a proper visa to do volunteer work, or face deportation.

If you're in the Pattaya area, I have a good relationship with a nursing home that has some foreigners who might enjoy a visit. PM to me for more info.

As to the WP issue, I would liken it to visiting people in prison. There are people who do this and I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for that.

When my friend Kandis was in Hospital in Chiang Mai..an old Thai lady and some relatives of the Thai, stood by the bed when I was there.. just smiling..

They were hoping for an addition to Her will..or just being kind!

Feel free to go for it!
