Sukhumbhand buoyed by drainage efforts
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra, the Bangkok governor, said he was satisfied with the draining of flood water in Lat Phrao as the situation returned to normal in three hours, and he instructed officials to install more pumps and prepare for more rain this week.

Sukhumbhand Monday inspected the Klong Chaokhun Singh in Soi Lat Phrao 112 to see how the 20cm-deep clogged floodwater was drained from Soi 100-116 via Klong Chaokhun Singh onto Klong Saen Saeb and then the Rama 9 tunnel.

The heavy rain on Sunday night caused many city areas to flood. Sukhumbhand said the Lat Phrao area had an average rainfall of 70 millimetres per hour, while another report said Prawet district had the most rainfall at 121.5 millimetres on Sunday night followed by 106.5 millimetres.

Meanwhile, rain-triggered overflows from Klong 12 in Pathum Thani's Lam Lookka district yesterday inundated 40 canal-side homes and village roads with up to 40cm of water, prompting officials to dispatch 10 flat-bottom boats and mobile toilets to accommodate the affected residents.
