Laos visa, $US or thai baht ?

Recommended Posts

People used to say that you should change to $ and not use thai baht when buying a Laos visa because it costs much more to use baht. What is the situation like today ?

i could add that I have bought Laos visas two times recently. First time I payed 2.000, the second time 1500. Both in the Mukhdahan / Sawannakhet crossing. Yes, not same :(

It was 20$ bill . When did it go up?

If you are form China it is $20.

It has been the same for many years. When I did my first crossing back in 2002 I think it was the same. I paid 1500 baht then but that was real close to the $35 it would of cost me back then.

You will pay much more in Thai baht. If you use U.S. dollars make sure they are new. If they refuse at the border hide your Thai baht and tell them all you have is 1000 baht or $35 American dollars. Tell them the choice is yours.

I would have thought the choice is theirs - it is their country. So what are you going to do if they refuse entry?
