No it's not true.

That's just hate propoganda spread by racists who can't cope with a black president of the USA.

Pathetic.

Cumon man, their Obumers own words. And the health dept in Hawaii (democrat state) that has control of the birth records is covering it up as well! I am Australian so it's not my fight, but you can't change history!

I was born in Australia but when a Thai person asks me were I from? I say "I come from Australia"....and do the dinjo thing cos the often think I come from Austria! It's just easier than trying to explain in Thaiglish there's a country next to Indonesia called Australia.

HAHA! I'm from the US & my wife is from Surin. I've been to 6 continents, my wife has been to 5 or 6 countries.

A few years ago when my daughter was about 7, she had a little ball with the globe printed on it.

She came running outside & asked me to show her where Australia was, as she had just seen some kangaroos on TV.

At least her mom was honest, ... she didn't know, so she sent the kid to ask me. Now they both know.

Obama is DEFINTELY half Kenyan. His mother was Caucasian citizen of the USA that liked to burn diesel.

Calling someone a racist over stating a well known fact is just sad. Makes me think the person saying it is the true racist.

I can't believe that there are still "people" talking seriously about Obama being even half Kenyan. He's an American whose father was Kenyan. What has this to do with the country of Kenya in 2015?

The one that corrupts has no moral standard and the one who accepts the bribes has no moral standard also !

Simple as that ... you allways need two.

The power of governments and the fear of the public are what makes corruption so easy in EVERY country !

Just give it a different name and it's not corruption ? ... let's say: lobbyist ??? [same thing, different word]

As long as people don't recognise corruption as being morally wrong, nothing will change.

... and for Obama: He's a criminal and mass murderer, so who cares about the color of his skin ? Or his nationality ?

In some ways, corruption is your friend. It's the STUPID laws (traffic laws excluded) that create corruption in the first place.

Want to open & run a business? There's a bazillion STUPID laws that prompt business owners to bribe the cops to look the other way.

I considered opening a family friendly business (charter sailboat trips) out of the Ocean Marina years ago, and found out the BIB would require a monthly stipend to "not find something wrong" with what this farang was doing, so I scrapped the idea.

Yes, it was corruption that prevented new business, but at the heart of it, was a Byzantine set of laws, rules and regulations that allows them to hold a business owner's feet over the fire.

If it weren't for corruption, a lot of businesses (not all), would not be able to comply with the law = the STUPID laws (most are) become useless due to lack of enforcement and thus we see rampant corruption.

The US is one of the biggest offenders, so it's not just a Thai thing.

It's just done differently (and on a much more industrial scale) in the west, like when a former Treasury Secretary gets appointed to the board of some Wall Street bank and pays himself a $50 million salary even though his bank screwed bond holders & share holders.

I just recalled this one.......

I used to live in Eakmongkol 4 off Soi Khaotalo in Pattaya.

My daughter was about 4 or 5 & had learned to swim like an otter, and I enjoyed cooling off as well in a pool (plus my daughter is my best friend, plus I watch her like a hawk when she's near a pool).

A VERY nice Dutch guy, family man with a cute Thai wife and a daughter close to my daughter's age had a pool/restaurant near the entrance to Eak. 4 & Soi KT, so we were frequent visitors.

The Dutch guy had a really, really NICE sound system, with speakers all around the pool, playing classic and smooth/soft rock'n roll stuff at an ambient level......NOT BLARING IT OUT like a karaoke bar at 0300 hrs.

I really enjoyed the place. He opened at 10:00 AM, closed at 8:00 PM, served food, and yes you could get a beer or a shot of Jack Daniels, but it was 99% kids and parents = a FAMILY FRIENDLY business.

One day my daughter and I went there, and ZERO tunes.

I never got the full story, but from what I heard, it went something like this......

He had satellite radio, and was broadcasting a German radio station over his speakers around the pool, and the BIB confiscated ALL off his sound equipment because he didn't have a permit to broadcast music. They demanded 50,000 baht. He refused to pay, so it was gone. The thugs took it away.

Within 2 months the entire, thriving business shut down. Not saying the guy was making a mint, he was just probably just getting by, selling ice cream cones and snacks to kids and enjoying his business of watching kids enjoy themselves, along with a 40 baht per day pool usage fee.

Sure he made a smidgen off selling me a few beers and meals, but it was by no means some nefarious operation.

STUPID laws beget corruption.

The only victim in this situation was the nice Dutch guy, his family, and my daughter, along with the other customers that used to enjoy paying HIM for the VALUE he brought into the market.

The STUPID laws, gave the cops a reason to shake him down = only folks happy are the cops, who with the power of STUPID laws, have every excuse under the sun to coerce every business owner to pay.

I would imagine that is one reason most shops in Thailand are a "hovel in a townhouse".

If they look like they are making any decent money, the BIB will be along to collect their unfair share.

Liberals like him are in the process of destroying common sense and honesty in society. They will happily turn a blind eye and not issue a murmur whilst ISIS brutally beheads thousands of civilians in the street but quickly scream blue murder when a child gets killed because ISIS are using him as a human shield and he wasn't spotted before dropping a bomb.

People like that should be sent right into the middle of what they think they are experts on to get a real education.

Good on ya Mate! Be a Sovereign Man.

Working on my Panamanian citizenship/passport now. Then Uncle Sam can kiss my lily white behind good-bye.

For about 1.5 million THB ($40,000 USD) you can get quite legally get permanent residency in Panama, visit 2 or 3 times a year for 5 years, and become a citizen.

I despise the US gov't a lot, even though I do DEARLY LOVE Florida. It's a nice place.

Sometime we gotta vote with our feet though, and make corruption our friend = I know for sure I'll need to keep a some spare change in my pockets for the local traffic cops or when I want to import anything of value .... It's a trade-off between that and draconian thugs who follow STUPID laws in the US that won't accept a backhander to get things done.

My 10 year old daughter is fluent in English, Thai, and is pretty good w/ Chinese. I have her learning Spanish now.

Wifey speaks Thai, English & Khmer, and I have her in Spanish lessons as well......Easy for them, as they have no pre-concieved rules embedded in their minds as to how a language should be structured.

Nobody on this thread has ever said he was not a natural born American citizen, with at least one American parent, and he was born on American soil.

You are the one using 'racist' in every post you make on this thread.

By the way, even though I believe the US is beyond fixing, I honestly believe Dr. Ben Carson is the best candidate out there right now.

Not because he's black, white, or purple with pink polka-dots. I just think he's a level headed, intelligent man with conservative beliefs.

Defending the most liberal president in the history of the USA because of his skin color, and immediately attacking those who dare say anything about the man (because of his skin color), is about as racist as one can possibly get.

Mentioned President Obama? That would be BSJ, not me then.

Said he wasn't American? BSJ again.

I responded to his prejudiced post. Or did you not bother to read that?

Many agendas out there.....

I beg to differ, and refer you back to post #4 where you said: "No it's not true.

That's just hate propoganda spread by racists who can't cope with a black president of the USA.

Pathetic."

True you did not say Obama, you just used the words "racist" and "black president of the USA" is all.

So solly.

BTW.......I say AGAIN, I think Ben Carson is the best guy running for the job right now. I judge people on, yes what the media says, which is always biased, but my friend (retired USAF Lt. Col with a PhD.) knows Carson's brother, and tells me the guy is pretty sharp, so that sways my opinion a lot. Plus he's conservative.

I could give a rat's ass about his skin color. I think Trump is a maniac who is good at leveraging borrowed money, which is something the USA should have NEVER done in the first place, and has us owing nearly 1/3rd of all outstanding debt in the world today.

I can respect your opinions BP. Thanks for debating me a bit. smile.png

All the words I used were used in response to a post that has since rightly been removed due to the bigotry it contained.

Wow EnglishJohn.... I normally disagree with the way you relentlessly defend the junta, as I believe that ALL governments are rotten to the core, and the best an honest/intelligent man of means can do is limit his exposure to any one government in particular.

I also believe that IF a man is a man of means, it is in spite of the government, not because of it.

Perhaps you quoted the wrong post, as you have me utterly confused.

Then again, maybe you are just a raving lunatic?

Honestly not sure who you are ranting on at here?

Sadly, he/she is one of the many black/disadvantaged people who cannot ever seem to see racism as a two way street!

Try being a white man in Nigeria, for example, to see true racism in action. It's also pretty common here in Thailand but it generally goes under the guise of xenophobia.

Safest to ignore BP's own racist agenda and put it down to him/her having had a Thai level of education I guess.

Obama is half Kenyan, end of story. I don't see how that detracts from him being a good or bad President but, as a non-US citizen, it is surely sad to see him see him sell out to big business and to not be the "Black Messiah" that many of BP's ethnic group were hoping for!

Sad really! thumbsup.gif

The lie that President Obama is not American is a lie spread by racists.

Seems to me the racist is the person who hi-jacked this thread & mention Obama in the first place.

I'm a bit shocked to actually find one person on this planet that really supports Carson. Let me give you a quick overview about this "best guy":

  1. In 1998, he said pyramids were not built as tombs for deceased pharaos. Instead it was built by Joseph himself to stock grain.
  2. In his biography he said he was personally offered to join the military academy West Point by William Westmoreland with a full scholarship. But West Point does not offer any scholarships at all, and Carson had to admit it wasn't true.
  3. He also said he was violent as a kid. However, CNN asked the people who went to class with him and nobody could remember him being violent at all.
  4. His political ideas are tightly related to the bible (see his tax plans).
  5. He puts up paintings in his house showing him posing with nobody else but Jesus himself. What kind of self-understanding is this?

Egads! This thread has veered off the tracks, and down into the ditch.

Regarding corruption in Thailand, the author says,

" It extends to every sector - politics, police, judicial, education and labour..."

Hmmm. Nice list. Maybe missed a very large institution.

Self preservation?

On item No. 2, it has been shown that numerous recruiting pieces refer to the "full scholarship" offered at West Point, even though technically they don't offer scholarships. So Mr. Carson might be given a pass for that remembrance.

Regarding his candidacy for President, I find him to be deficient in temperament, knowledge, relevant education, and coherent ideas. Except for those items, he is well qualified.

The root of all corruption is the central banks and unsound money that they conjure to buy the politicians and the media so that they can collude with big business and the military industrial complex to control and try to socially engineer the world. How else can the 80 richest Americans have wealth equal to the poorest half of the world's population?

The only people in Thailand that could attempt to "fix" Thailand are too embroiled in the corruption. The country will implode first, then a new, educated (God knows where, though) generation will have to sort things out. Thailand is definitely far from unique, but it is a country that we all have an interest in but have seen decline. We've seen how great Thailand can be - some of you still see that, and I understand that and the reasons why. It's a country that most of us can see has so much potential...but they need to change. They need to address the corruption and culture that accepts it.

Go ahead; abuse me. I expect it. However, I won't respond to any of you. I didn't write the article.

Not to respond but is there any one who has been in Thailand since 2010 and thinks that the present government is not making things better.

Notice I said making better not made every thing perfect. The PM himself tells us that it will take 20 years to bring unity. That in it's self is a step forward. Yes there is lots to do but there has been a start on it. Freedom of press is often talked about. Name me one country that really has it. In the case where Thailand is money from another country has been pouring into group of people who have been the reason behind it for their personal gain they have no intention of helping Thailand. It only makes good sense when you are correcting wrongs to shut them up.

Even when they have managed to get a word out their previous followers ignored them. They like the peace in Thailand now.

Seems to me the only complainers are the people who have money and are afraid of falling off the gravy train.

One word sums up this story...greed

Corruption is just a manifestation of greed and the exploitation of others and i start from the cynical position that there are very few people who can hold there head up high and say they are not susceptible. It certainly doesn't bother me as much as it should how the tuna i am eating was caught, how old the person was who made my shoes, where my oranges were grown or who actually ends up with my speeding fines.

The important thing about controlling it is the exposure of being caught and the punishment that is administered so, rather than the vague hand wringing in the article i would much prefer the author using her position as a columnist to exhort the press to better expose this deeply routed corruption that is endemic in Thailand and also use her first hand experience of how corruption is dealt with by the legal systems in first world countries to point out the failing of the institutions responsible for it here.

Oh please fill us in on how the United States handled all that corruption with the arms manufactures and Halliburton on one side and Cheney and the rest of his followers on the other side.cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

No it's not true.

That's just hate propoganda spread by racists who can't cope with a black president of the USA.

Pathetic.

Cumon man, their Obama's own words. And the health dept in Hawaii (democrat state) that has control of the birth records is covering it up as well! I am Australian so it's not my fight, but you can't change history!

Listen at the 22 second mark: "I come from Kenya " a common way to say he was born in Kenya. https://www.google.co.th/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CDYQuAIwBGoVChMIiN7njs-JyQIVI-emCh3N9wa_&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DcQcd41RO25k&usg=AFQjCNHuXMwSoRHf8OkmNV8ddwrEtsM8Jw&sig2=tEcsuhHSaYs0l1IdVldvnA

Good for her.

However, makes no difference to my point.

I have no idea about how the US handles corruption hence my suggestion that the author of the article uses her first hand knowledge of the subject due to her corruption conviction there for election fraud.
