Speeding car flips on Patong road after smashing into back of parked taxi, unhurt driver suspected of drink-driving

PHUKET: Police have cited excessive speed as the likely cause of an accident in which a car flipped over after smashing into a parked taxi in the early hours of this morning in Patong.

Luckily, no one was injured in the accident, which occurred on Phra Baramee Rd, in front of Wat Suvarnakeereewong School.

Pol Major Yingyong Chuaikit of Patong Police was alerted to the accident at 3.15am and joined rescue workers to the scene, where they found a black Honda Civic with Phuket plates, flipped over in the middle of the road.

About 30 metres away, there was a greyish bronzed coloured Toyota Altis with green taxi plates, which was smashed up on its rear side.

The headline says the driver is suspected of drunk driving and in the body of the story a Pol Maj blames speeding for the accident.

In the Phuket News report the major is quoted as saying " we believe he had been speeding and will be testing his alcohol blood level too. "

A simple question is ' did they ' ?

The major was busily telling the press what they would do rather than doing it and then making a statement.

Lucky it wasn't a foreigner, say an Irishman for example, they'd lock him up for 2-3 days not not tell anyone...

It's not worth it

Only suspected of drunk driving. Not yet charged. Don't they have breathalisers or blood testing. Or does it all depend on how much money one has got.

First response of the driver: "Officer, whats today's rate for refusing a breathalyzer test?"

All these accidents with vans cars and busses are because of for stupidly but also they are uninformed on the frequency of this happening. Do you think these drivers read the news or see the almost daily postings on TV. I doubt it. They have no idea at all. It's a free for all.

Education would go a long way. But that isn't going to happen till someone steps up to the plate.
