NLA member decries suspected corruption in farmers' credit card project

BANGKOK: -- A member of the National Legislative Assembly today (Thursday) questioned the government in the parliament about the farmers’ credit card project which he alleged of being rife with corruption.

Mr Kittisak Rattanawaraha told the parliament that the project which was initiated by the former Yingluck Shinawatra government involved 4.2 million farmers entitling them to obtain fertilizer and insecticides with their credit cards Tapco and its affiliates.

The Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives holds shares in Tapco.

Kittisak said he found several suspicious things pertaining to the project such as the credit cards were made in South Korea at a cost of 200 baht apiece while the same cards could be made locally at just 50 baht each.

He claimed that the fertilizer and insecticides available at Tapco’s outlets were priced higher than the same products on sale in the market.

Also, he charged that an ex-general who is a member of a political party had close connection with one of the four affiliates of Tapco. Tapco, he added, hired companies engaged in the business of selling flowers to produce fertilizer.

The NLA member said he would compile all the evidences available for submission to the National Anti-Corruption Commission for consideration.

The farming sector programs proposed and implimented by and during the Shin governments were designed to be conducive to corruption and outright theft of product.

Their design was for all intent and purpose, for faciliting this type of conduct by those involved and invoved billions of baht.

Anything involving,Government (the taxpayers) money,

will have an element of corruption in it,it would be a big

surprise if it did not.

Seems like a little bit of Tit for tat going on.

PTP accuse over The Park scam, they accuse the PTP over something.

We get it guys, you are all corrupt, as well as a huge portion of those in the civil service system. I expect many within the system do not even realize they are corrupt, the working practices are so ingrained into them.

You are all corrupt so just stop bickering and get on with your promised reforms. 19 months and waiting now for one reform to be made public, never mind implemented.

Corruption in a Thai govt run program---shocking...unheard of...scandalous (but profitable).

Which reform was that? I must have missed it.
