Palestinian shot dead after stabbing Israeli officer in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM: -- A Palestinian has been shot dead by Israeli border authorities after stabbing a police officer in Jerusalem.

The incident, which was confirmed by a police spokesman, is the latest in a surge in violence in the region.

The Palestinian is said to have stabbed the officer in the neck near a
main gate of the walled Old City, moderately injuring him.

Some hours afterwards, a woman was lightly stabbed in the back near a bus station in West Jerusalem. The woman, believed to be in her thirties, was taken to hospital.

The perpetrator fled the scene immediately after the attack, but was later detained, according to Israeli media.

Near-daily bloodshed has killed at least 19 Israelis, one US citizen and 94 Palestinians in the past two months. It has largely been fuelled by Palestinians’ fears Israel will change the status quo at the al Aqsa religious compound. Israel denies any intention of wishing to do so.

The Palestinians have many willing to die for nothing, and Israel has many bullets to stop them,

let's see who gonna give up first.

Shouldn't the headline be "Isreali officer stabbed by Palestinian"? Bit of bias in the headline there...

...a wonder how they can get so close to the soldiers in the first place...time and again....

Apparently, he was shot dead after being detained.

Ah, what happened to the good old days of the '70s and early 80s when Palestinians went around blowing up airports and airliners...

In a Non PC world? Yes, what do you expect from a world that embrace BDS and vilifies Israel on a daily bases?

You bring up a serious point.

Psychologists have noted that many Palestinian children have lost the will to live. Their lives are so miserable under the brutal occupation, and they have never known what it is like to live in peace.

It's just another, subtler manifestation of Israel's crimes against humanity.

If you offer young Palestinians no future and nothing to live for with the phony peace process dragged out by Netanyahu for another 48 years as it has been for their parents and grandparents, then they have nothing to lose.
For every Palestinian extra judicially killed, you create dozens more seeking revenge.
Wouldn't it be much more sensible to save lives on both sides, with measures to lessen tensions rather than exacerbate them. Such as a moratorium on fanatical Zionist troublemakers visiting Haram Al Sharif, a moratorium on colony building, and genuine peace talks proposed. It all depends whether Netanyahu seriously wants peace or simply wants to manage the conflict...and he is doing that very badly at the moment, if this is his idea of vote for me for security.

Brutal occupation?

Ask the Syrians that risk being decapitated by IS on a daily basis

Israeli arabs are welfare queens...something that the liberal media never mention.

Israeli taxpayers subsidize the large palestinian families so their children will be stoning and stabbing them in the future

Great.

You are trying to deflect. We are discussing the brutal occupation of 4.5 million Palestinians outside Israel's 67 lines. Discrimination against Israeli Palestiniians is another topic entirely, which I would love to debate in another thread another time maybe..

Yes, brutal. What happens in Syria is no excuse and does not lessen the crimes.

What has welfare got to do with anything? I think you'll find that the biggest sponges of Israeli welfare are the ultra-orthodox Jews. Not that that has anything to do with Israel's crimes, either.

These stabbing youths have never known peace in their lives. Have know deaths in their families at the hands of the Israelis, have had their homes destroyed and really do have very little to live for, and really do have reason to harbour hatred.
