BANGKOK:-- A number of police websites were offline today after the international hacking collective known as Anonymous claimed to have taken them down as part of their campaign against the junta’s plan to take control of the internet in Thailand.

Websites for the Office of Police Strategy and Police Administration Information System were unavailable this morning and intermittently throughout the day, after the hack announced Monday on various Twitter accounts used by members of the group using the hashtag #OpSingleGateway.

The attacks were intended to underscore the vulnerabilities of a state-operated internet in Thailand, they said.

"It is unacceptable that you promote your own people, army executives at the Head of the largest Telecommunication operator: CAT Telecom,” read a statement attributed to the group. “To prove our point, we are demonstrating the inability of the Thai government to secure even their own police servers, it is pitiful and should worry all of Thailand.”

This will only give the Junta more reason to take control over the internet. (= A matter of national security).

And this in a political atmosphere where the thought gains momentum, claiming "There is nothing wrong in Thailand, everything bad comes from outside of Thailand".

Might get harder to get visa-extensions for expats in the future.

Cheers.

I don't think Anonymous are that stupid.

All this is is a story to give the authorities more excuse to take control and have a huge Great Bamboo Firewall and single gateway....no doubt supplied by China, with it's hidden back doors for the CCP to use at will.

But did anybody actually notice the difference, when the police-related sites were moved to inactive posts, following local tradition ? whistling.gif

So they acheived nothing then, as the police on use their computers for playing games and looking at porn.

Yeah..and I think that is why my porn is loading so slow....

I can assure you, from personal experience, that is most certainly not the case. Mostly.

Might, might not. Hardly likely.

Those would be the websites thrown together by some Indian freelancer back in 2003 and since long forgotten? How the <deleted> did they manage to find them in the first place?

This week the Thai Junta has been blocking articles on Thailand in the foreign press.

I'm suprised they haven't blocked NY Times yet. Maybe they don't have the balls. The article from Thomas Fuller on Nov 29 was pretty heavy.

I'm sure only a handful of police know they have a website

How many can read

..sure they can!..they can read numbers very well....

200 Baht is bigger than 100 Baht and 400 Bht is bigger than 200 Bht, but becomes a little confusing from here on.
