Travelling To Hua Hin With A 8 Month Old - Please Help!

Featured Replies

I am planning on travelling to Hua Hin this winter for a month and bringing my 8 month old with me.

I am a little concerned as he is too young to have all of his shots due to his age. Some of the doctors here in Canada are afraid that there too many dieases that he can catch while there. I have read some stories about people bringing their infants to Thailand without any problems. I would love to hear from anyone that has actually done it. We will be renting a house while we are there. Is there anything that I should be really worried about?

Thanks,

I am not a doctor, but I seriously doubt that we have any more dieseas here in Thailand than anywhere else in the world...... maybe different types, tropical for instance.

Since you will be coming during the dry season, hopefully most of the mosquito problems will be over by then......

Remember, we do have hospitals with some excellent doctors, I wouldn't worry, I don't and I am the father of 3.

Ohhh....t he only time my kids get sick is when we go to the USA, something about the diet being so much different. Taco Bell, Wendy's etc.......

Bit narrow minded from the docs there... are you from Saskatoon? :o

More likely get sick on the plane coming over than in Thailand and very much doubt he'll catch anything while in Hua Hin that he wouldn't in Canada. If you were to travel in the north of the Kanchanaburi province or along the borders in the jungles and slept out under the stars, then there'd be a risk, but you should be fine in the cities and resorts etc. Don't forget, there are millions of babies in Thailand (Thai, half and full-farang) that get along fine and haven't had all their jabs yet either. We travelled the length and breadth of the country with our boy when he was 3/4 months old. Just make sure you keep him cool and hydrated.

Have a good trip. :D

Only thing I would be scared of is Japanese Ecenphilitis (sp) which you can only catch if you are up north otherwise. It is all safe if parent is cautious of the usual stuff. Clean drinking water, thoroughly cooked food, hygenically prepared fruits etc (and these are standard in any home, country or even world!)

Bon voyage.

  • 2 weeks later...

My best friend has a 11 month old. She has already spent months 4-6 in Northeast thailand in a small village. She has never---never-- never been sick. That is in thailand or u.s. Just make sure you use the bottled water and protect in the sun, otherwise, same as home.
