Don’t Call Me Blind, PM Says

Featured Replies

Khmer Times/Ven Rathavong

Prime Minister Hun Sen is asking Facebook users to stop insulting him by calling him a blind man, and he wants all television stations to begin offering sign language for their deaf viewers.

Visiting the Krousar Thmey school for deaf and blind children yesterday, the prime minister said he has been called A Kvak, an insulting Khmer phrase for blind, and he has had enough of the insults.

Mr. Hun Sen’s left eye was injured on April 16, 1975, one day before the victory of the Khmer Rouge regime. “I was blinded in just one eye, and I am Prime Minister, but they call me A Kvak. It is a serious insult for me,” Mr. Hun Sen said.
