Some glitches at Terminal 2 but passengers are impressed

THAILAND -- There were some glitches on the first day of the partial reopening of the Terminal 2 of Don Meuang airport as several domestic passengers were unaware that they had to check in at the newly-opened terminal.

Several toilets on the third and first floors are not ready for use as the contractor was fired and a replacement is yet to be picked.

Several passengers said today that they were impressed with Terminal 2 for its cleanliness, space and no congestion.

Don Meuang airport director Petch Chuncharoen however said that safety and security are the two priorities of the Terminal 2 but the check-in system at Terminal 2 is the in-line screening system or EDS whereas at Terminal 1 which is for international flights uses X-ray machines to screen baggages.

The main problem of Don Mueang airport is traffic congestion as Vibhavadi Rangsit highway is used as the entrance to and exit out of the airport.

Mr Petch said the reopening of Terminal 2 would help ease congestion at Terminal 1 which is now catering to international flights while Terminal 2 is for domestic flights.

About 100,000 passengers are using Don Meuang airport each day and there are 600 flights per day.

How do we know what terminal to go to? So new terminal 2 for AirAsia?

For Air Asia domestic flights you go to T2 (domestic)

For Air Asia international flights you go to T1 (international)

If they could only figure out how to improve taxi service now. We landed 23rd 7pm and the wair for Taxi (limo) service was 45 minutes, the line for Meter was 20 rows deep and 50 people long. Tried uber and jumped in a very nice car in 3 minutes. This is a good use of Uber in my opinion, as the taxi drivers were so busy.

In Thailand, glitches means pandemonium, since when do they admit to anything.

Terminal 2 for local

Terminal 1 for international

Yeah, looks like no congestion in the photo right there. I guess you have to break ribs before it's congestion around these parts.

Many things not finished, no toilets on arrival! They should have postponed opening.

Positive: all LED lights

Happy that I have to drive everywhere, since I live 250 km north of BKK, and my local airport is another 130 km north of me.

A shuttle rail service (1/2 hourly??) to Bang Sue might alleviate some of the taxi/limo problems.

Why, the quality tourists , they sh*t anywhere .

I guess the toilets would be clean, since the restrooms are not finished.
