Prayut urges eligible voters to vote on constitutional draft

BANGKOK: Prime Minister Prayut Chanocha Friday called on all eligible voters to exercise their right during the national referendum on the new constitutional draft.

He said decisions whether to accept the new charter should be made by the majority of voters, and not a small number of them.

The PM said this principle should also be applied for general elections, adding that if possible he wanted all the eligible voters to cast their ballots.

"You are the ones who can make changes to the country. You have to come out in great numbers," he said.

General Prayut was speaking at Government House, where he gave a 45-minute closing speech for the postcoup government's press conference on its performances over the past year. The speech was broadcast live on the staterun NBT television.

Fine. When?

And voters urge Prayut to prepare a constitution making their effort to vote worthwhile.

What's all this urging for votes when your institution stand ready 18 times over to knock them down. He should instead urge future military leaders not to stage another wasteful coup. He really is clueless.

What is required is a clear pathway for the election of the PM, Senators and Lower house by the people , how hard is that to place into print for a referendum , as for more Coups, unless there is a major restructuring in the corridors of power and the military prevented from carrying out a Coup , expect another around 2022.Due to freedom of speech restrictions that about all that can be said on this matter...................................................coffee1.gif

with his 99.3% approval rating the outcome will not be in doubt.

"He said decisions whether to accept the new charter should be made by the majority of voters"

The 2007 Constitution was passed by a slim margin of the majority of voters who voted. There was a suggestion made to the CDC that the next referendum on a draft constitution require a majority of registered voters for passage. This approach would counter government attempts to suppress voting in areas unfavorable to the junta while providing material encouragement and support to areas favorable to the junta.

The 2007 Constitution passed public referendum by a majority of votes cast by about 59%. However, that only represented about 33% of total registered voters! CDC Chairman Meechai undoubtedly supports the majority of voters who vote approach. The risk of the next draft constitution to fail a referendum might be too great for the Junta's continued control of the government.

indeed, July 2014 was just around the corner when this moron decided he knew better than the voters... coffee1.gif
