Seeking a Recommendation for a Dr./Hospital to Treat a Laos Child Going Blind

I'm affiliated with a charity, Adopt a Village in Laos, and am looking for an opthamologist to see a 12 year old Lao boy who at 10 months old lost the sight in one eye and now can only see shadows in his remaining eye. This is more complicated than the usual lasik, cataract, cornea transplant, etc. Can any one recommend an opthamologist with Western training and privileges to a modern medical facility. Bangkok-Chiang Mai Hospital may be too rich for the charities pockets. TIA

I would suggest taking the boy to Professor Dr Songsanguan Ausayakhon (MBA Johns Hopkins) she has a private Private Clinic on Sridonchai Rd 053449230 and at Sriphat Hospital. I would explain the situation to her and see what she recommends. She is very amenable. She is a professor at Chiang Mai University and, if it his complaint is not her particular area of expertise, would know who was the best doctor to see and would refer you.

Try contacting this http://www.bangkoklionsclub.com/about-lions.html

I am not sure if there is a club in Chiang Mai.

EDIT: There may be a few clubs in Chiang Mai, according to Google.

Yes they are very interested in helping world wide with vision.

Where I come from many of the drug stores had a box they collected old glasses to spread to needy areas.

If there is an inexpensive answer they will have it.

Interesting, do you mind sharing information about the charity? I like these kind of projects.

Given associations of directors Rotary in Chiang Mai might be a better start than Lions. though Lions do fantastic eye work.

Op may also consider contacting the Fred Hollows foundation. They do a LOT of vey good work in Asia, a fantastic organisation and Fred, though a larrikin at heart was one fo the world's great humanitarians.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. If anyone else has a suggestion, please post up. I will be following up on all of them.

Adopt a Village in Laos is a non profit, tax deductable (Canada) charity that focuses on water, sanitation, education and hygiene projects in the mountain villages in Laos. Visit their website https://adoptavillageinlaos.wordpress.com/ for more information on specific projects and photos.
