samsensam Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 i was flicking through the thai tv channels yesterday morning and three channels were showing different road accidents, at least one was fatal as they showed the body. this unnecessary carnage is seen by all thais. why no one in government does anything to change this appalling situation and why thais watch this on tv and then go out and drive in such a ludicrous way completely baffles me.
SABloke Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 That time of year again is it? The ''seven dangerous'' shown every year to actually be slightly LESS dangerous than the other normal days of the year
ratcatcher Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 "...anti-risk measures in local areas to reduce the number of deaths and injuries from road accidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year ....." If you are going to do it, do it right!!!
clockman Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Same claptrap every year. And they are aiming for No 1 in the world!
ginjag Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 "...anti-risk measures in local areas to reduce the number of deaths and injuries from road accidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year ....." If you are going to do it, do it right!!! Just to ask the authorities. Of ALL the drivers in Thailand, WHO HAS HAD TUITION. ???? that is prior to obtaining a licence---TO KILL NEAR No 1 in the world for road fatalities, 80% of which are motor cyclists. every village---every-town--has these tented roadside --manned, areas. who are in them--how much money is paid out--and what do they do ??? I have NEVER seen anyone ever being stopped and checked-------money for old rope and a publicity stunt....OMG
ginjag Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Same claptrap every year. And they are aiming for No 1 in the world! It was always stated that the deaths were those at the scene of the accident------so if we include those that died on the way to OR at the hospital we can assume Thailand IS the top of the worlds worse country for deaths on the road.
Emster23 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 "the agency has focused on reducing risk factors to road accidents including people, vehicles, road conditions and environment along with the raising of public awareness of road safety measures." They feel the need for press release that for 7 days out of the year (hopefully) they are doing what one would think would be their frickin' job all year long?
stag4 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 There doing nothing apart from extorting money!
Jonmarleesco Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 One of the annual holiday road safety farce shows, yet again. Short of using a tourniquet to tighten up measures - aided and abetted by applying some logical, non-Thai, thinking to solving the glaringly obvious shortcomings in Thais' driving habits - nothing will change.
amdy2206 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I have just driven from Bangkok to Khon Kaen (29/12) arriving at 6pm. I was never stopped once, saw no cars stopped but saw the booths with people sitting in them. I didn't see a policeman until Phon but from there on there was usually one, or more, at some of the busy traffic lights. I don't really know how this is checking vehicles or drivers. I do think this year with New Year on a Friday travel has been staggered over a good length of time so I think the going home part will be ok, BUT when EVERYONE returns next Sunday/ Monday then is when the problems will occur.

They aren't police check points. Australia has similar areas called "driver reviver" stops where they hand out free tea and coffee during public holiday periods.
duckmandon Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 They don't actually state any measures taken. So what are they doing? Blowing smoke I think up someones ****.
wabothai Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Have been crossing Esan for 3 days. Only saw 2 highway patrol cars actually moving. Lots of checkpoints but police and many boys hiding from the sun under their canopes or busy with phones. Was stopped once by army, to show drivers license. Stopped last night 120 km from home on account of traffic being too dangerous. Glad to be home and alive. It was no fun. Never again during the "7 days".
springheeled jack Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 you cant change this recipe its been in existence for so long the recipe for disaster is inbred the desire for death is inbred and to top it all the belief in budha being their savior is overwhelming.
