Curved toe geckos to become a protected species in Thailand

gk.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The tiny curved toe gecko is facing extinction thanks to being widely hunted and sold in markets along the borders Thailand and within markets such as Bangkok’s Chatuchak weekend market.

Their appeal is due to their vibrant stripes and colours. However hope is in sight for the curved toe Gecko as the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and plant Conservation will add the Tukkai to the list of protected animals.

Currently the law does not cover the hunting of geckos whose habitats on limestone mountains have been seriously impacted by mining.

Once the tukkai is put on the list under the Act of Preserved Animals, expected next year, those who trade them will be faced with a fine of 40,000 baht and jail terms of up to four years.

Remind me to check their toes before shutting them in the door frame.

They can make loud noise when squeezed between the doorframe.

Gecko's are my pets, they keep the floor clean from insects under the lights.

But first we had a big one in the livingroom under the light and every 4-5 months the big one disappears and a baby gets it's spot.

The baby's are dumb though and even scared for some insects.

That's my pet house lizard.

Yeah right - protected like Pangolins, Gibbons, Tigers, Leopards, Slow Loris, Elephants, Asian Rhinos, Snakes, Sea snakes, all dolphins and porpoise, all fish, all birds, all insects,

....

No room for the whole list, no room for the animals......just get rid of them all. If you can't eat them or make money from them what is the point of them cluttering up the place.

Another HUB LoS is famous for....endangered animal trafficking added to the list of humans / drugs etc etc

As usual, terrible journalism. No such thing as a curved toe gecko, there are such things as bent toed geckos (Genus Cyrtodactylus) from Thailand. The tukkai or Tokay is not related and is not endangered.
