NORTH KOREA -- North Korea says it has successfully conducted its first test of a hydrogen bomb.

The test, the fourth time the isolated state has exploded a nuclear device, was ordered by young leader Kim Jong-un, North Korea’s official KCNA news agency said.

But should the H-bomb claim be taken seriously?

The United States Geological Survey certainly reported a 5.1 magnitude quake that South Korea said was 49 km from the Punggye-ri site where the North has conducted nuclear tests in the past.

But it has not been independently confirmed that this was an H-bomb – which is more powerful than an atomic weapon.

And South Korean intelligence officials and several analysts have questioned whether Wednesday’s explosion was indeed a fully-fledged test of a hydrogen device.

On the streets of the North Korean capital, however, news of the test and claims of a significant advance in Pyongyang’s strike capability, was a cause for rejoicing in pictures provided by state media.

Watching the announcement on big screens, people were filmed applauding and shedding tears of emotion.

“It is very refreshing. As long as the United States maintains its policy of aggression against North Korea, I think developing a hydrogen bomb is inevitable,” said one resident, Yun Kuk Chol.

“I feel so relieved. I think it is obvious you need to counter a robber waving a nuclear stick – with a nuclear stick,” added another man, Kim Jong Chol.

Exaggeration about its military capability would not be a surprise from North Korea.

Last month leader Kim Jong-un appeared to say that a hydrogen bomb had been developed by the reclusive nation but the United States and outside experts were sceptical.

From the institutions monitoring this, the conclusion is that North Korea has set off a low yield fission blast as there were no detection of any evidence that this was a hydrogen blast.Normal BS from North Korea. It is estimated that they have less then 3 devises that they could arm for an atomic bomb. The UK alone has over 9,000 such devices including bombs and artillery shells, and missiles. Some of their missiles can also send out 200 more smaller atomic blasts.

From a countering expert (who are about 40% of those in the field, but everyone wants to downplay this...we have enough ISIL/Saudi/Iranian/Iraqi economic/political/regime headaches):

"Carlson, who headed Australia’s safeguards office for more than two decades, said it was possible Pyongyang had actually produced a lower-yield “boosted explosion”, in which the hydrogen isotope tritium undergoes partial fusion, allowing them to describe the device as a hydrogen bomb."

but it only takes 1 device dropped on some country(any) to spark a huge war.... seems pretty much everyone has nuc's but they say H-bomb is much worse than Atomic Nuc's so dropping it on 1 country... bam WAR~~~ and to what extent.

What get's me... Iran and those countries just do it... they don't go around bragging about it... N. Korea is probably just full of lies and trying to start anarchy...

They seem to be China's baby... and that is the only reason no one has gone into that country and removed that government for its own good... coz momma China own's that country.

they said it made a man-made Earthquake... 5.1... so terrible people are trying to really destroy the earth by several pieces at a time.

hope something will be done about this lunatic... their leaders must be all in breeds... like the Ozark people(ever see Deliverance?) they act autistic, look autistic with that haircut that cannot be managed and got that puffy fat face... none of them leaders are starving to death...
