France: 'Jungle' migrant camp is partly demolished



PARIS: -- The makeshift migrant camp on France’s northern coast known as ‘The Jungle’ is being partially demolished.

Officially, part of the sprawling site, near a motorway, is being cleared for security reasons.

For authorities though it will help keep migrants from achieving their objective – jumping onto lorries bound for Britain, the destination that most of the camp’s estimated 4,000 residents from poor and strife-torn countries outside the EU
want to reach.

Britain has declined to admit any migrants from Calais or anywhere else in Europe, saying this would only spur more to stream into the continent, instead taking only some from refugee camps in Middle East countries neighbouring Syria.

To house some living in the squalor in Calais, France has just opened a shelter made of converted shipping containers – although some migrants have refused to move in, describing it as like a prison.

That's along my thinking. They have no business to be where they are now. They are either asylum seekers (bit hard to plead after making it through up to a dozen countries half of which are safe, last time I checked France was roughly in the middle of Europe) or they are illegals. As they refuse asking France for asylum, it's obviously the latter, hence a case for police.

What puzzles me is how they can actually exist where they are. How do they get water and sanitation? Where does the food come from, or the money for that food? Aid organizations? Well, stop them.

Make those "refugees" come to police if they want food, or just round them up in manageable groups, lorry them to southern France, put them in a nice detention camp until they remember where they came from so they can be deported. Will be cheaper in the long run, because there will be fewer coming in to swell their numbers.

From what I read they have taken to cutting down the fences round Eurotunnel or swarm the place in numbers local police cannot cope with, and they've begun attacking police and lorry-drivers with metal bars and stones.

Why are they not treated like the criminals that acts make them, just because they call themselves "refugees"?

There either are laws against illegal immigration, assault, housebreaking, and vandalism, or there are not. I don't understand how that "Jungle" came into existence in the first place.

Because France hasn't had the appetite until now (or the balls) to do anything about it.

Easier to leave them there and maybe they's bugger off to UK and give the British the problem. French people have woken up since all the recent terrible attacks in France and Hollande knows he can't get away turning a blind eye anymore.

Yeah because it is easy to send them back maybe?

send them where? most of them have no papers...

And sure France could stop feed them...why not shoot them while you re at it....
