Thailand disqualified as IPU meeting host

The Inter-Parliamentary Union has disqualified Thailand as the host of its meeting next year on ground that Thailand's legislature is not an elected one, Akapol Sorasuchart, a member of the National Legislative Assembly, said Thursday.

Akapol said the IPU instead allowed Indonesia to host the meeting in April.

Akapol said he attended the IPU meeting in Geneva as a representative of Thai Parliament.

Akapol sid the IPU meeting initially proposed to disqualify Thailand as its member but he explained the role of the NLA to the IPU, which understood and cancel the plan to disqualify Thailand's membership but the IPU still disqualified Thailand as the host of the next meeting.
