A group of alleged robbers armed with AK-47 rifles who robbed and shot to death a communal clerk in Kampong Speu province’s Phnom Sroch District on December 19 of last year were arrested in Battambang province along the Cambodia-Thai border on Tuesday, according to police officials. The two men have since been sent to Kampong Speu provincial penal police headquarters for questionings, and will be transferred to provincial court for questioning today.

“They were former inmates at CC3 prison [Trapaing Phlong Prison in Kbong Khmum Province] who had been sentenced to 14 years each for armed robbery,” Colonel Som Bora, Deputy Chief of Kampong Speu Provincial Police, told Khmer Times yesterday. They were released in 2014.

Witness accounts and hidden camera photographs in the victim’s home led to the recent arrest of Chhun Koeun, 36, and Pann Samnang, 40. Their questioning concerned, among other things, stolen money and jewelry.
