Foreign Minister ‘Honest’ About Ineffective Ambassadors

In a meeting with the ambassadors and consulars of Cambodia, Hor Namhong, minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, criticized acting ambassadors stationed abroad, saying they must be more independent and work harder. “Our ambassadors seem only to work to save money for an easy life, having reserved meals, drivers and comfortable accommodation, less work. Work while also having a party, they work to cheer up,” he said, adding that he “just wanted to be honest.”

Mr. Namhong admired the abilities of those foreign ambassadors working in Cambodia, and employed different ambassadors to Cambodia as examples. “When foreign ambassadors meet me, they know all the situations in their countries and our country, the situation of the relationship between the countries and also the situation in the region,” said Mr. Namhong.
