Meat prices stable, fruit prices spike amid Chinese New Year celebrations

BANGKOK, 8 February 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Commerce has revealed that following its inspection at Rungcharoen Market, meat prices remained stable, while fruit prices have increased significantly.

Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion Sirinart Chaimun and officials from the Department of Internal Trade visited the market to inspect the prices of goods during the Chinese New Year period.

The officials reported that most meat prices remained stable. Chicken was sold for 70 – 75 baht per kilogram, while pork was sold for 140 – 150 baht per kilogram. The prices of ceremonial items were mostly the same as last year.

However, the prices of popular Chinese New Year fruits have skyrocketed. Oranges were sold at 150 baht per bunch and Cavendish bananas at 120 baht per kilogram, depending on quality.

I was at Chinatown fruitmarket last saturday and NONE of the vendors showed the price of their fruit....Also there were kids from 12-14 years old sitting on the streets drinking bottles of whiskey/breezers.

My wife did newyear ceremony's at the headquarter buddhist temple and it was not busy which was great.

Walking past children drinking whiskey and selling flowers, broken sidewalks, exposed high voltage wires, puddles of mud and garbage, child porn DVDs, prostitutes, drug dealers, loan sharks, Pathumwan Institute of Technology gangs, motorbike taxi mafia gangs, Thai mafia, Russian mafia, knives, brass knuckles, throwing stars, real guns, stun guns, sex toys, fake pharmaceuticals, fake ID's and Thai mafia police standing next to the child porn DVDs, the officials reported that most meat prices remained stable. I have news for this man the price of fruit spiked about 6 months ago and will still be spiked after Chinese New Year is over and done with. Its amazing always how many excuses like Chinese New Year are at hand to try and befuddle the minds of people living in Thailand. I think the Thai people are well aware of this one.

pickup parked just off chang klan each morning selling fruit. Lately oranges are favorite of the past month. price started at 35 baht a kilo went up a little every week to 45 baht as of yesterday, until this morning. price today 55 baht per kilo.

what brought on such a increase, maybe different kind of orange, looked the same on drive by, but who knows. I did not notice people lined up to buy at that price as they normally are at 40+_. at least they post price so its readable
