PM Urges Officials to Monitor Facebook and study suggestions from the people

Prime Minister Hun Sen addressed a letter to government officials yesterday recommending all ministries nationwide assign teams to follow daily news reports and requests from Cambodians posted on his Facebook page. The prime minister urged officials to solve any problems that arise on the page as soon as possible in a transparent, efficient way. Officials should be aware of his social media page where all kind of posts, containing complaints and requests from people around the country, are published.

“To understand on time the requests from people, Samdechs, H.Es and Madams should set up a team to follow the daily news and requests from different people sent to the prime minister’s Facebook page. After that, you have to respond and find solutions for them as soon as possible,” the prime minister wrote. He added that any direct messages sent to his page containing pertinent information would be relayed to relevant ministries and institutions nationwide.

Last week, the prime minister’s Facebook page, which has been active since last September, passed the 2,092,000 ‘like’ threshold, surpassing the number of ‘likes’ on opposition leader Sam Rainsy’s page by nearly 1,000. In recent months, the premier has used the social media site to interact directly with citizens and field complaints on a variety of issues, ranging from government actions to cumbersome laws.
