Sihanoukville businesses want beach ban revoked

Featured Replies

Dozens of businesses from Sihanoukville’s Otres beach will deliver a letter to the National Assembly today seeking intervention on a government order to vacate the beach or be forcibly evicted.

The letter, addressed to Prime Minster Hun Sen, cautions that people running businesses in the area will lose their livelihoods if they are kicked off the beach.

“We, 62 vendors, continue to support you and vote for you in the next mandate. We would like to request and suggest the provincial authorities issue a standard plot [for a stall] so that we can then build on this location,” reads the letter signed by vendor representative Lev Kim Eng.

Dont revoke the ban. It will result in more pressure on visitors. And eventually less visitors. Seen it many times venders impolite and greedy driving foriegners away.

Clear the beaches and you will have the same sh... as in Phuket.

The effect on the beaches in Phuket was nothing but positive. The beaches are beautiful again and a big layer of corruption was removed. Great move getting the businesses off the beaches on Phuket.

Lots of noise about "never coming back to Phuket" but that didn't happen. Any downturn in business was result of the global economy. No move here to get businesses or vendor encroachment back on the beach.

Getting rid of the businesses on the beach was the the best thing that ever happened here. I hope Cambodia sticks to the ban.
