Probably the closest you'll get w/out gray importing is the Maxus: http://www.maxusmotor.co.th/models/v80-pasina-palina/

Thx looks a good option to consider ,

Have any ideas on $$$ ?

Thx

Ok found out , seems there around 1.3m new , a little over want I wanted to spend so time to hunt down a second hand one :-).

Thx for the info btw , never heard of them but a (very) quick glance at google leads me to believe they are made by the same company as MG , aka chinese ?

How about a Hiace. http://www.toyota.co.th/en/model/hiace Smaller but cheaper?

Another possibility would be the small cab over trucks like Isuzu NHR / Elf or Mitsubishi Canter. http://www.fusotruck.co.th/?page_id=77

No access between cab and body like the van though.

New models have grown in size but the older models with single rear wheels instead of duels are smaller and closer to the Transit size. These were popular in Thailand so there are used ones around. http://www.taladrod.com/m/icar/cardet.aspx?cid=1708434

Thx for the post Jitar , but for years the company has used the usual Thai pick up format and I want to change to what is a considerably more suitable van for the purpose I need it for , and to be frank I believe a better impression to clients.

So then , the hunt begins for a second hand one .........

Open to all offers if by chance someone has a friend of a friend who knows someone who has one , as even now looking at the major car sites all sites return 0.00 ;-(.

They seem to of been availiable for a few years so they have to be out there somewhere , but where....

Crazy thing is theres probably someone wanting to sell one and looking for me who wants to buy one...

The Toyota Hiace is a van not a pickup, it's the low roof cargo version of the Toyota Commuter.

VW caravelle are available but set up as up market minibus though.

Other European vans are pretty rare but: http://www.one2car.com/for-sale/citroen-jumper--e0-b8-9b-e0-b8-b5-08-15-29-business-bangkok-metropolitan-kanchanaphisek/2725175/

I enquired about the VW Caddy van at the motor show a couple of years ago but told none of the VW Vans are available as nobody wants them . This was the line from VW Thailand. This was when there were strong rumours that VW were going to manufacture in Malaysia. This i thought was a fob off as i would imagine they would sell well especially with what competition there is and it was pre VW diesal scandal . The mec sprinter is a VW rebadged anyway.

I suspect it has something to do with taxation of the vehicles and the authorities being to confused to tell the difference between a commuter bus and a cargo van . And what is to stop bus companies buying a van and converting it to a sub standard bus buy screwing seats to the floor.

Correct - Maxus is a sub-brand of SAIC who also own the MG brand.

Correct - Maxus is a sub-brand of SAIC who also own the MG brand.

Also worth noting is the fact Maxus was originally developed by a LDV/Daewoo joint venture. GM sold their part off and SAIC picked up the pieces and produce them in Asia and some Eastern Block Countries. The design is about 10 - 12 years old from memory and it's quite a good van.

The LDV is sold in Oz.....at rather cheeky prices! I wanted one hi-top for my business down there but balked at the price. It's a lot of cash for a box full of air!
