Gianni Infantino has been elected the new President of Fifa.

The Italian Swiss and general secretary of Uefa won the contest on the second round count clearing the necessary 104 majority with 115 votes beating the early favourite for the post Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifi into second place – he won 88 votes.

It was an emotional moment for the new president whose campaign had gained momentum in the last week leading up to the election.

“ We have to be proud of FIFA and everyone has to be proud of FIFA. We have to be proud of what we will do together. And I want to be the president of all of you, of all of 209 national associations. I travelled through the globe and I will continue to do this I want to work with all of you together, with all of you in order to restore and rebuild a new era in FIFA, a new era in FIFA were we can put again football in the centre of the stage,” he told delegates.

So does this mean that FIFA will now go back to running the greatest game on Earth or will it continue to be a revolving bank door? I don't hold much hope. coffee1.gif

He has a hell of a job ahead of him.

Corruption has been a part of life for f.i.f.a. for years.

How can anyone stop something that officials see as a perk of the job?

I hope he can do it, and bring back some respect into the game of football.

I am not very optimistic. He got voted in by the crowd that gets fat off the kickbacks etc. BBC carried all the speeches etc last night. How many votes would a candidate get if promised to end corruption, payoffs and excessive perks? "Ya dance with the one whut brung ya" as Ann Richards said

So they replace a Swiss lawyer as head of FiFa with...... a Swiss lawyer. Infantino has been involved in and around UeFa and FiFa for a good many years. I do not see that this guy is a 'new brush' to sweep away the ills of the past. He started working for UeFa in 2000, working his way up to be Platini's second in command. Surely this guy knew what was going on under Blatter and Platini.

Spot on. As UEFA General Secretary working with Platini. if he didn't know what was going on then he's not bright enough to be the new FIFA president,

If he did, well................

Ironic, like hiring a Swiss banker to clean up the Swiss banking industry.

Same Same only different.

Infantino will become Infamous, just like Blatter.

Just a matter of time.

Think about it for just one minute....Infantino comes from a town 6km from where Septic Bladder comes from, he's a lawyer same.He was/is Platini's lapdog at UEFA. thats just the start.

2 tainted men, who were caught with their hands, both hands in the till....

Now who gets to vote on who becomes President of FIFA? The votes come in from the SAME people who still could be as CORRUPT as hell. It's only because they didn't get found out. Even the presidents of their regional associations have been arrested. The only way they get voted in is because of corruption somewhere down the line, because they need to pull in favours, or give something in return for votes, the same as its always been....its nearly (555) as corrupt as a certain police force that we know and love so much...rant over.

Be grateful the Bahraini guy didn't get it.

If you think Blatter was corrupt....

The only thing trustworthy about the Swiss is the time on their watches.
