Qatar and UAE admire Thai workers

supawadee wangsri

BANGKOK, 5 March 2016, (NNT) - Labor Minister Sirichai Ditthakul visited Qatar and the United Arab Emirates between March 1 and March 5, 2016, to promote and facilitate the employment of Thai workers. Both countries admired the concerted effort as the Middle East country still needs a large number of Thai workers.

The visit was in response to the Thai Ministry of Labor's policy which looks to monitor Thai workers abroad to make sure that they receive higher wages than in Thailand and have good quality of life overseas.

Importantly, the overseas worker employment will be in accordance with the procedures and laws of the dialogue partners. In case of the workers being provided by a private job company, the firm must properly take care of its workers and can provide immediate assistance when any problems occur.

Damn straight that they should be admired.

I wouldn't swap my Thai workers for anyone else. I have taken them throughout S.E Asia and Africa and I currently have them in PNG working on a project with me. They are cheap, loyal and hard workers. In return they give me high quality work and a lot of money in my pocket!

I don't think the Thai workers would stand for the same treatment as other foreign workers where their passports are held for up 3 years ( that i now about )

(Pakistani , Nepalese , Bangladeshi ,)

The skill set is also higher in a general term with building, Thais that i work with now put in every day same as the Cambodians i have on site, Different pay levels are given to the skill levels they bring or have learnt , and as other poster has stated, i too would take the team i have anywhere,

Qatar and the UAE are looking for Thai because the Indians are now being paid a little more than nothing. These countries look for the cheapest people they can get. I have worked in both countries and conditions for these nationalities are not good.

In return for what, the peanuts you're paying them?

Before he travels to other countries he should clean up his back yard first ! They have been exploiting western teachers for decades ....treat your foreign workers fairly and maybe the same will apply to Thais in other countries.

What's the ploblem man? As long as they are free to go home i don't see any issues.

It's called "doing business". Every boss makes profit on his labourers, welcome to the real world.....

Very true....not to mention the fact that, in many cases, the workers are not free to leave. Many (if not all) sign 2-3 year contracts and have their passports taken away from them until the expiration of the contract.

I acknowledge that Thai workers are worth their weight, however it is poor reflection of the Thai work force when people have to go over sea's to support their families, I have this same situation in my Thai family where Uncle has been absent for years supporting the family working in Korea, and for what they get I sometimes wounder if it is all worth while, lets not forget this type of employment is completely different for expats who go over sea's, they are required to train the work force or try to train is more like it .. .............................coffee1.gif

The fact that they have been with me for over 6 years is because they make 4 times more money than their peers in Thailand. Costs me $4000USD a month to be exact for each worker. Very cheap labour for mechanical maintenance labour specialising in cranes.

But yes, I make a fortune off them. If I didn't I would not be running a successful and profitable business and if I was not running a successful and profitable business I would not employ Thai's that were making 4 times more than their peers.

I am very very proud of myself. My Thai workers are very proud of me too and their families are very grateful for allowing me to give them a standard of living they would never have gotten before.

You have all reasons to be proud, some people just don't understand how the world turns.

When i was a young IT-consultant my boss charged 10 times the salary he paid me. It's extreme but that's the common norm.

Who forces the Western teachers to come here? Nobody - they choose too. And whilst I've met some really good ones, I've met a lot that are crap, under or not qualified and can't teach too.

Interesting, and of course the information etc came from, wait for it, a Thai official. biggrin.png

Fair point. But having worked in both countries mentioned, and having a wide circle of connections in both, the comment is correct.

Thai workers do good jobs, work hard with good skill sets. And most importantly they are far less trouble than the Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indians.

Thai people working in foreign countries....

I guess that's the downside of Thailand having the world's most admired economy wherein unemployment is virually nonexistent but a minimum daily wage of Bt300.

But for some reason Thais must find work outside of Thailand for less than minimum wages. In UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar there is NO minimum wage for foreign workers in the private sector.

The fact is that Thais are leaving their country in droves seeking better wages so they can support their families in Thailand. The salary structure in Thailand for workers are horrible. Yet, the cost of sending their children to school, food etc keep going up. Those who can't escape end up in the entertainment industry servicing tourists. Thailand suffers from the same disease other countries suffer from- A very wealth class that is greedy and does not want to share their profits with the poor.

I dont understand why you are so "very, very proud" of yourself exploiting your own workers. Doesnt matter that they are Thai or for that matter any nationality. None of us are understand why you are so proud of cheap worker exploitation.

Basically as I see it you are extremely happy to use these people for your own selfish wants and desires to make in your own words, "a fortune"

Your attitude is nothing that I would be proud about and for sure wouldnt be boasting about it to complete strangers in an open forum. wow....

It is nice to make big money while being a capitalist (exploiting the work force of other) and helps boost the self-esteem but from the morale view, it is nothing to be really proud of.

I congratulate you to a successful business, a textbook capitalist! But a worker should earn the profit of this work because the profit for you is always the unpaid labor of the workers. Not in this capitalist society of course. Many work for the wealth of few. thumbsup.gif

But hey, in the yacht club with my fellow millionaires I also laugh about jokes how easy it is to make a fortune by exploiting others. We feel very dominant then. wai2.gif
