DPM Kosit reiterates floodwater will be drained by Nov.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Industry Minister, Mr. Kosit Panpiemras, has insisted that the floodwater in all inundated areas will be completely drained out by the middle of November. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Aree Wong-araya said all flood-affected people will be cared for throughout the country.

Mr. Kosit spoke about the government’s assistance for the flood-hit people on Modern Nine TV yesterday, saying related agencies have been called more frequently to discuss the measures to solve the flood problems as soon as possible. He has affirmed that the floodwater in all areas will be drained out between November 15th and 20th, while affected agriculturists will be able to cultivate once again.

Meanwhile, Mr. Aree said the officials are taking care of food, drinking water, transport routes, public health, and warning system in all flood-hit locations. The flood preventive measures are being implemented from the province of Phetchaburi to the southernmost region of Thailand. Officials have used the flood disaster in 1995 as a case study, and they have been reminded to specially look after the provinces with strong economy such as Nakhon Sawan. Footages of inundated places taken by satellites are being used to assess the damage as well.

Permanent Secretary for Public Health Dr Prat Boonyawongvirot meanwhile cautions people in flood-hit areas of hand-foot-and-mouth-disease (HFMD), eye conjunctivitis, and rashes. However, epidemics resulted from floods have not been found, and Public Health officials are now mending over 500,000 patients nationwide.
