Buying in different region

Featured Replies

Hey, looking to get a new pcx in Phuket. Is there any issue to then take it up to Chiang Mai ? Can I do this on red plates? When I sell do I need to do so in Phuket? Anything else I need to know? Thanks

if you buy in phuket, then the bike will be registered there, the white plates can take a while to be issued. you could then take to another area and continue to tax and insure every year, no need to change number plates, the problem will come if you sell.

So can I take out of Phuket on red plates (and have the whites sent or collected by someone ) or a red plated bike needs to stay in Phuket ? With selling, do I need to do at registry in phuket? Don't plan to sell for a while so not a big issue ... Thanks

it seems to me you are doing things the hard way instead of an easy way.

brave man, 1500 kilometres and through bangkok.

you could ride on red plates, but you may have problems with the police,

I have done a few similar trips. Bangkok is fun to ride ... Ok, so there is a law about red plates not being allowed out of issuing area?

from memory youre not supposed to leave the issuing province or ride after sunset. but if you get stopped and fined then get a receipt and you can ride all day on it without being fined again.

There is also a matter of the red plate is a dealer plate and the routine would be to exchange plates. The dealerships are very protective of their plates. I doubt they will just send you a white plate through the post and allow you to swap yourself.

I think I had to pay a deposit for mine too.

And yes, you aren't supposed to ride out of the province with a red dealer plate.

Choose the no plate option, drive it up to Chiang Mai, (skip bangkok, take the 321/340 from Nakhon Pathom to Chainat via Suphan Buri, fewer pigs on the road) the dealer in Phuket can sort you out Chiang Mai plates, as long as you have a certificate of residency, or work permit, in Chiang Mai at time of purchase.

Otherwise you're probably causing too much hassle for yourself.

I want to ride the bike up to cm ...

Can't see the point - surely cheaper and easier to buy in CM.....
