PATTAYA:--A 9-year-old girl’s leg was mangled when her foot got caught in wheel of a moving motorbike’s sidecar.

Sawang Rojanadhammasathan Sattahip rescuers were called to Sansiri 2 Village on Soi Wat Kontaman in Sattahip March 5 to find Prathom 3 student Raira Sawaddee writhing in pain.

Her left foot had gotten stuck in chain and wheel of the sidecar on the motorbike driven by her mother. Bones in her foot were crushed and bleeding and the girl was frightened and crying.

It took about 20 minutes to free Raira’s foot and she was transported to Queen Sirikit Naval Medical Center.

Poor girl crippled for life.

When oh when will Thais learn that chain guards are there for a reason?

Many times you see motorbikes with the chain guards taken off, bet that is what caused this poor girls accident.

These sidecar things are not legal. when is the BiB gunna start clamping down on them ?

Sympathy for the girl, of course, but where does it say she is crippled for life?

One more example of the, fantastic parental care

in Thailand, we see on the roads every day.

Worst bit is, the parents will just think they were unlucky.

Hope she recovers soon. wai2.gif

My heart just shivered........ the unbearable pain.

Thailand - hub of safety... :(

Hope the little one will fully recover. To believe the parents would make the necessary adjustments and install chain guards, etc. most likely is a pipe dream...

Camera's and smelling salts, hmm.

the young girl must have been screaming in agony a very tragic situation and I hope she comes out of it fairly well.

Ouch

A common occurence. If not feet it is items thrown loose into the sidecar. Have two times seen such units spin out and flip because a of something jamming the wheel but as yet not a foot.

My sympathy to this young victim of apthetic circumstance..

Every time I see people riding in those things I think they must be crazy.

You're right, they're illegal, but clamping down on them will create other problems; they may cripple family's only way of transport and a lot of small businesses may have to transport their goods in a possible more unsafe way.

I know, apart from being illegal, they're a real pain in traffic, but it's the way it is

So sad.
