NRSA to explain why EC should be authorized to organize public forum on draft charter

BANGKOK, 18 March 2016 (NNT)-The National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) is preparing to answer a series of questions regarding a public forum on the draft charter, by the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) at the next parliamentary meeting.

The NRSA Whip has formulated a set of questions that are in response to the National Legislative Assembly's (NLA) doubts about whether the Election Commission (EC) should be allowed to organize another public forum to let people vote on the draft charter. The NRSA Whip is expected to run the questions by the EC before proposing them to the NRSA for consideration on April 1st.

Regarding the composition of the Senate, Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan has asserted that no senators selected from 20 social groups will have power over the government or have the same authority as the Strategic Committee on Reform and Reconciliation, during the five year transition period.

Meanwhile, Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) Chairman, Meechai Ruchupan said today that the CDC has already reviewed 80% of the charter clauses concerning national reform. The CDC will also deliberate on proposals by a group of four government bodies, known as the ‘Four Rivers’, and conclude discussions by March 21st.
