ACU to Investigate Source of Sokha’s Funds

Khmer Times/Taing Vida

The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) released the results of its investigation into phone recordings between acting president of the Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) Kem Sokha and an alleged mistress, claiming that the voices in the recording belonged to Mr. Sokha, with the ACU set to continue the investigation.

The ACU’s investigation was in response to calls from a youth group that accused Mr. Sokha of corruption, saying the tapes allegedly featuring his voice suggest he bought land and homes for previous lovers with funds from unknown sources.

During the second day of a public forum regarding the recordings, Chea Sam Ath, director of the examination and technical department, said a total of 34 audio tapes posted on Facebook and local media sites were used to verify the validity of the six original tapes posted to the Facebook page of Mr. Sokha’s alleged mistress Khem Chandaraty, who went by the name ‘Srey Mom’ on the social media site. Public speeches during his party’s forum as well as some of the acting president’s radio appearances were checked against the leaked tapes.
