BANGKOK:-- Police raided three houses in Bang Pakong east of Bangkok yesterday rounding up a gang of Koreans and a Chinese national running a sports betting operation.

The men admitted that they were working for a South Korean syndicate and taking bets from that country on international sports, reports Thairath.

They had been operating for between two and three months with a daily turnover of about one million baht.

Armed with search warrants issued the day before police arrested 10 Koreans and one Chinese and took a large amount of computers, notebooks, passports, bank books, flash drives and one time password issuing devices into evidence.

So they are not taking money (bets) from Thai people, just using the Thai internet to get around the S.Korean gambling laws, you would think there would be a better country than Thailand to run that from.

Isn't this the same argument that digital nomads use, concluding that what they are doing is not illegal? Working online for foreign clients with the money not entering Thailand.

Just wondering.

Why do Koreans come to Thailand to do this stuff? Why not just do it in Korea?

Because they know the heavily armed military and the police in Thailand are busy shaking down the illegal bridge playing dens and thus there is a big chance these villains will remain undetected while the law is distracted with other more easy prey who are not fleet of foot and do not have the ability to escape quickly.
