'Citizen's arrest' of migrants in Bulgaria condemned by rights groups



SOFIA: -- Amateur video of a citizen’s arrest of three illegal migrants near Bulgaria’s border with Turkey has sparked controversy, with rights groups expressing concern about such actions.

The three men are seen with their hands tied and being shouted at to leave Bulgaria. Border police later found the men with their hands free and none of them hurt.

Such arrests have happened in recent weeks, targeting migrants arriving through Bulgaria’s border with Turkey in a move denounced by the Bulgarian branch of the Helsinki Committee (BHC) rights group.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov attended a tactical training of the army at the Novo Selo training area, South Bulgaria, and announced that 300 additional army officers will be send to guard the country’s borders.

The government has also said that help from citizens is always useful but that it is seeking ways to channel citizens’ actions into helping police lawfully.

We need to listen to rights groups now , see how many rights you get to keep in the ME.

Pretty damn gentle really, seeing they are fighting aged jihadists most likely...how many heads have these creeps lopped off, or have they participated in atrocities ?

Even if there is a slight chance of them being Isil then Europe should put up a ring of steel....

I would think that the Bulgarians are worried that the migrants might indeed stay or might steal things while in Bulgaria or might set up mosques and start trying to influence with a view to changing the system there. I believe there is a welfare system in Bulgaria which the Bulgarians might worry that uninvited migrants might attempt to abuse.

The piece isn't clear on whether or not the arrest by citizens of illegal migrants is, in itself, legal or not.

Maybe law abiding citizens who spotted illegal immigrants trespassing illegally in their country felt compelled to detain them so the police could deal with them in accordance with the law.

Obviously complying with the law is not something you feel important or understandable.

Or do you think everyone should be free to come and go to any country they please?

Right at he heart of the problem, the new trend is that nobody should want to help protect his nation, everybody should enjoy getting f***ed with a smile. There is major sabotage at work all over Europe. Wake up people!!!

Easy fix, the 'human rights' groups need to be required to open their homes to the immigrants before they can condemn ANY actions.

Well, for one thing they may not be successful crossing the next border and be stuck in

Bulgaria. Also as an EU member and part of the Schengen free movement area they

have an obligation to police their boarder and stop illegal migrants from flooding in.

If all countries did the same the EU would not have the migration problem it currently has.

Human rights groups, Oxfam and etc do what all NGOs do, they make lots of money and get little done.

That aside it is interesting that Muslim migrants wanting to go to Australia go to Indonesia first. It's another Muslim country, however none wish to stay there but wish to go to a non-Muslim country instead. Odd, would it only be because Oz is a welfare state?

Interesting too with Europe the most generous welfare states seem to be the preferred destinations. Was reading that Sweden's long term Muslims have a miserable 33% employment rate with the rest on welfare, do they imagine that the new influx will do better? Recall Oz has similar figures.

Yes , Muslim migrants appear to want to quickly to pass through the safety of Muslim countries like Turkey or Indonesia to get to non Muslim countries , all the while asserting that Muslim countries are always much more preferable to non-Muslim nations.... and, of course , by and large vocally committed to converting the non-Muslim lands to Sharia Law as soon as possible.
