CDC's Meechai worried about political parties' decision not to play by rules

BANGKOK, 15 April 2016 (NNT) - The President of the Constitution Drafting Commission is worried that political parties may decide not to comply with all the rules but still believes the public understands how the political reform process should proceed.

CDC President Meechai Richupan said that the charter drafters will need to ask for permission from the National Council for Peace and Order before they can begin the tour to explain the details of the draft charter to people across the country.

Mr. Meechai said that the NCPO’s permission will ensure the safety of all charter drafters against any possible disturbances during the visits.

The CDC President also expressed his concern over some political parties’ recent expression of their opposition to the draft charter, saying he is worried these parties may not play by the rules of the current political setting.

Nevertheless, he is sure that the public has a clear understanding that Thailand is going through a political transition, which involves new rules, but they also need to understand what the new charter has to offer.

Yes, and many were worried that the army wouldn't play by the rules either, and they were correct as the coup did happen.

And exactly which rules is he referring to? The rules that say you can have any opinion on the charter you like as long as it's positive?

Heaven forbid someone should break the rules of your little dog and pony show.

This wacky word "reforms" that has never been defined. The overwhelming reform seems to be that people of Thailand are never allowed to vote in a government of their choice ever again. The 'good people' need to have their noses in the trough forever.

When the PM's advisor, Suthep, backed the draft a few days ago it only provided the final confirmation that is was dodgy.

Yes I would want a lot of protection to if I had to go into the hinterland to sell this silk purse.

Why was he surprised?

They've always put themselves above the law, refused to accept judgments they don't like, never worried about any law enforcement or investigative agency daring to challenge them.

And he thinks they might play by some rules someone makes up!

Rules? This is Thailand, where the rules are what apply on any given day.

This could cover any number of "they's".

I kind of find his worrying rather pathetic. After all, these political parties are just following the example set by someone else.

How is the ordinary Somchai in the street supposed to understand the proposed constitution?

It's not like a "Brexit", which is quite a simple question.

This Thai referendum covers the whole constitution!

Give Somchai 10 days of tuition, and he still wouldn't know enough to make a informed decision.

Heck, I bet that less than 25% of the 250(?) "Constitution Drafting Commission" members fully understand all the points of the constitution they are flogging.

All this is a facade/charade, attempting to make the constitution appear not to be forced upon the population, which attempt fails miserably.

Don't worry Meechai. You have tanks and guns behind you. If the worse comes to the worst a few hundred deaths will set things back on the reform road.

Does that mean that he thinks the peasants have been sufficiently cowed to accept an incomprehensible 200+ page constitution because the self-proclaimed "quality people" have told them to do so?

There are no rules. You vote for it or go to jail . I worry more about Mee-hai than the political parties!
