April 30, 201610 yr I searched the forum and found quite a bit of information on Thai pawn shops. The one thing I am still puzzled about is how one can actually go and browse the things they have for sale (leaving out the 100% gold focused shops of course). I see a dark door, metal bars and 1 counter - but pawn shops elsewhere I have been in the world look much more like a 2nd hand store where you can browse all the items that the shop have taken control over (through direct purchase or simply because someone defaulted on the interest payments/never came back). I.e. how the heck do I get there and see what items I might be interested in, say a camera, tv, watch or whatever? again; am aware that some of the shops focus on only gold and maybe jewelry - but even then they should show case it? I have also read that some shops only sell items to professionals. I HAVE seen a chain here that do have that layout so it is not completely foreign here. Cheers!
April 30, 201610 yr As far as I know, pawn shops here don't sell stuff directly to consumers. Most of them sell unclaimed items in bulk to second hand shops, who are the ones who have to display and sell the items.
April 30, 201610 yr Most shops selling in bulk to dealers. They are not particularly interested in selling items singularly.
May 2, 201610 yr There's not interested in dealing with foreigners either. I tried to "Jam-nam" my iPod a few years ago and I might as well have been invisible. I ended up selling it to a friend.
