We are due to visit Thailand and my partner smokes and was wondering can you buy genuine branded cigarettes in Thailand (probably the most stupid question ever asked I know)

Having never smoked, i never paid any attention to it on my earlier visits

Yup, all of the main US International brands such as Marlboro, L&M, Camels etc are available.

British Brands seem harder to locate. For some reason UK brands like Benson and Hedges and JPS vanished a few years ago.

The only snag is that some idiot passed a pointless law a few years ago which means that the tabs for sale have to be covered so 'browsing' is difficult but many places now leave their screens open now......

Buy some at the duty free at the airport when you arrive - you each can buy one carton of ten packs.

If you told us the brand and type then you may get more accurate information.

I would buy duty free upon departure (not arrival in Thailand- these are normally Thai rather than International smokes) Some foreign brands readily available here but the tobacco blend is different, generally much stronger. Years ago, I couldn't give away the Thai Marlboro Lights & Bensons I took back to the UK as gifts.

Because they are fabricated in Malaysia, Indonesia or Philippine.

If you do want to get the original duty free fags,

look at the package small prints for made in,

or distributed by Swiss.

If you are passing through Dubai buy them there. Cigarettes are cheap as chips, and you get original UK brands. Lot cheaper than UK Duty Free.

Not sure about other transit countries though.
