Commerce Ministry to scramble for 20 billion baht damage pay over G-to-G rice scam

BANGKOK, 6 May 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Finance has called on the Ministry of Commerce to have six politicians and government officials pay an estimated 20 billion baht in damage compensation concerning a government-to-government rice scam.

The Ministry of Commerce is currently examining legal details of the issue and will notify those who might be legally obliged to pay for such damage to the government, said government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd.

He said the government did not delay the case involving a previous government's rice subsidy program but was working on it.

Have you been taking English lessons from Sarah Palin?

Yes, The Ministry of Commerce knows the "bad" people BUT will anything happen now? Nah!

But they will have their usual talkfest (for happiness of Thai peoples)! And the ill gotten gains will, by now, have been safely hidden away.

Whatever happened to the idea that people should be tried in a court? This looks like another "administrative ruling" that bypasses due process.

Ther eis ONLY one lawful and Accurate court here. Section 44. The Junta says - Everyone else ACTS.

Oh god... I hope and pray that when the Thai people finally snatch back their country and restore democracy that they come after all those involved in this and the previous 2 coup regimes with the full weight of the law.

Locking them up for their crimes against the nation is the only thing that will prevent them from repeating them in the future.

Shall we just remind ourselves that this was a FRAUD committed against the Thai people by those elected and appointed to govern them. Why so much negativity about identifying those politicians and public servants involved in this multi-billion baht theft, and forcing them to repay their ill-gotten gains?

Perhaps because it is inconvenient to remember that many of the members of our previous "democratic" government were criminals appointed to cabinet, or given party list seats, and/or receiving payment from a criminal to help exploit the Thai people.

Straw man argument. Nobody has suggested lawbreakers should be spared. However, I have questioned whether their case is being prosecuted according to the law.

If you want an improved Thailand, try arguing for the rule of law, as opposed to authoritarian shortcuts.

Yes, I would be happy to see all those that acted in a criminal manner and pocketed money to not only pay back the money to the nation but to also pay a very large fine. The burden of proof is a little bit of a stumbling block, not only to fined proof but it MUST BE PROOF IRIFUTABLE, not just some documents that can and have been faked or forged, there any paperwork given as evidence needs to be original letter head and signed.

Now the magic 20 billion baht number, who made that number up? and just how did this G to G cause 20 billion in damage?

But why stop there, why not go after everyone that is cheating the country REGARDLESS of which side of the political fence they are on and those that are in the military also not just poly's and government workers.

have YOU decided they are criminals, or is it something "everybody knows"

This is a complex case which needs to be decided in an unbiased court with proper legal procedures and safeguards.

That is not going to happen because such a system does not exist. However what current un-elected ministers say or people on Thai Visa post is not an alternative. I doubt whether much, if any of that so called "loss" will be recovered or that the Thai people would be the beneficiaries if it were.

I doubt that blame will ever be apportioned in a credible way through a procedure that matches up to International justice standards.

Close the book and move on would probably be the way to go if reconciliation were the objective.

How it cost the taxpayer 20 billion.. easy

Step one get a fake G2G contract so you can sell the rice cheap to that party (otherwise you could not sell the rice below purchase price the high price the rice was being bought from the farmers for) It has been proven the deal was fake and the rice never delivered. The company was not allowed to trade for the Chinese government and rice was never exported but stayed in Thailand.

Step 2.. sell this rice back to Thailand under the rice program at the inflated price they were giving for it.

That is basically what happend and don't worry they will prove it.. this wont be that hard to prove.

I hope you understand how that could cost 20 billion. I am sure it would be around 20 billion not exact.. but we all know how people like round figures.
