exchanging money at airport after midnight

Featured Replies

I will be arriving in bkk at midnight. Is it possible to exchange money after midnight?

Not sure if you can, but I suggest to you to change £100 (or whatever currency you normally use) into Bhat in your home country which will give you about 5,000 bhat. Then the next day once in Bangkok city change your money as you will get a better exchange rate. Never change money at any airport in any country as you will always get a lower rate.

Also check out super rich exchange they give one of the best rates for exchange and normally better than the banks check their web site: http://www.superrich1965.com/

There has been exchange "banks" open ever time at 1am -2am in the luggage area right after Immigration worth of baht

maybe the girl is "napping" but she will wake up smile.png

I normally change $100 and then go to SuperRich etc in the morning ,

get 500 baht notes and some 100 baht notes for the taxi,

Then I go to 7-11 , get a cold Cola and change one of the 500 notes to even smaller bills......

If you use your home ATM card just know there is a 150-180 baht charge no matter if you get $50 or $400

99% positive one of the exchange booths in baggage claim will be open. In case of emergency have a debit card available in order to hit an ATM.

As other have said only get enough baht for that evening, and exchange the big money in town the next day. I use the arab money changers around the Suk soi 3/5 area. The SuperRich main branch is also a good option; better rates than their satellite offices.

I checked the superrich website and it looks like I would pay 19 baht to exchange $100. Does that seem right? It seems to be too cheap. It comes out to 1/2 of a percent commission.

The money changes I use in lower Suk generally exchange USD at .1 baht less (rounded to the nearest .05) than the rate shown on x-rates.com.

So if the rate on x-rates was 35.21 baht, they would give you 35.10 baht for pristine $50 or $100 USD bills. Lower denomination USD bills get a lower exchange rate (you will also see this at the bank kiosks) and there is a chance that older or torn bills might be refused all together.

Basically: get the newest issue of large denomination bills, in pristine condition, for the best reception.

Seriously, just purchase enough bhat for a taxi and food from your home country.

Once you're a regular you'll soon learn to return home with a minimum of five thousand baht cash for your next trip.

I would much rather just jump in an AOT taxi at BKK and get going.

great advice. I was thinking of coming with $20 bills but I will get $50's. Correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like the best way to

get bahts is to just bring cash to thailand and exchange it there. I used my Charles Schwab ATM card in rome which has no fees and wound up paying a difference of 1% from the yahoo listed exchange rate

yes $50 bills will get you a better exchange rate, I would not over think this, the exchange rate will be what it is on the day, follow the advice of the other people on here, get 5,000THB at home, Skip the exhange people at the airport and on the next day go to Superrich or one of the other exchange centres that have been suggested. And as mentioned by someone else on here, make sure all notes are in excellent condition, no rips, no dirty marks, no pen marks on the bills as they most likely will not exchange them.

A word of caution when carrying large sums of cash, make sure you know where it is, keep it safe, lock it away in the hotel safe or better still place it in a thai bank account if you have one. Do not display or flash the money in public. I suggest you only carry the amount you need for the day or night when you go out, 5,000 or 10,000THB do not take it all with you.
