People used to say, why don't you just google it and have the answer in a few seconds, now they say AI instead, but then there would be no forum, AI definitely has it's place, i use it every day multiple times

Well I have just used the question mark emoji because I read a post by someone that was absolutely unintelligible as the English used was so bad. Is there a Google answer for that?

Here's the google AI for your question...............It is easy to feel lost when bad grammar or strange slang makes a message hard to read. A single question mark is a quick and simple way to ask for a clearer explanation without being rude.

Why Bad English Happens Online

• Fast typing on small mobile phones leads to quick typos.

• Voice-to-text tools miss words or hear the wrong sounds.

• Internet slang and short text codes confuse readers.

• Non-native speakers use translation apps that fail.

Good Ways to Reply

• Send a polite note to ask what they mean.

It's unfortunate AN has such a dearth of emojis. I often am conflicted when a post really deserves two different. We need to be able to choose multiples emojis.

I would certainly suggest an exclamation point emoji to signify both emphasis and astonishment. What emojis might you suggest?

AN's emojis are really dull when there are some great emojis out there! Admins--get creative! (This is not to be inferred as a comment on moderation!) What's the difference btw "like" and "endorse" and "agree"? I often have a hard time choosing.

Maybe a flame emoji, too.

Human evolution depends much on ideas. A statement that purely remains and idea or suggestion, with none of the academic references or what ever, can become a global revolution in the next few years. Big developpments in the world started only as ideas. So no point in bashing people who suggest thoughts or ideas that are not yet referenced in anyplace. When the creator of the iphone spoke of his vision of such an item, as usual all the academics and smart arses around laughed and said it was unheard of, it was impossible etc etc...don't let such people who flood you with question marks pull you down. It only because your thought, suggestion or comment is far to evolved for the mainstream to understand at the first take. Keep an open mind. And always, always think out of the box and don't have a tunnel vision on what's not always obvious at the fist.....Thank you,. 🙏

Healthy debate or contradiction, with politeness and courtsey is always a benefit. But those who challenge others, plainly by oversized ego, nastiness or because they lack the enlargened mindset to understand...get those out of your circles.

In real life true but I think it is beneficial online to widen your perspective and try to grasp egomaniacs. Some of my favorite posters here I would classify as jerks using my real life perspective.

It certainly does. My son just used ChatGPT on his smartphone to translate the text in a photo of a Thai document (a parts and service quote from a vehicle mechanic) to perfect English.

On the other hand, I find the number of members who simply copy/paste their AI-assisted "research" as-is, replete with Gemini's rote formatting and bulleting, quite tedious. By all means use AI to answer questions and fact check, but stop being bloody lazy with the copy/paste nonsense.

On topic, being able to see who has awarded one any sort of emoji has thankfully killed the guesswork of who awarded what to whom that some members seemed quite obsessed with. It stopped them playing "guess who" and making groundless accusations based on previous forum altercations and disagreements, which was all quite childish really.

As a rabid emojiphobe, where I see absolutely no value in them whatsoever, culling the emojiphiles was a bonus.

Yes it has, but in this instance, compared to ChatGPT, it does it slowly and poorly. My son suggested that regular online Thai translation is based on the traditional usage, forms and dictionaries and can't handle some of the more esoteric or technical words and terminology as well as AI can. AI can access technical papers and manuals and a whole plethora of additional text and documentation. Since Lens is AI-driven, maybe there's still a bit of lag in the translation versus the 'oracle'?

AI? When I ask Google Gemini a question it reels off answers, and then says 'AI can make mistakes, so double-check responses'. So what's the point of giving an answer that might be wrong and telling me to check elsewhere?

I have been advocating for sometime they should have a BS emoji on this site

As we are living in a country entirely populated by AIs, which even named a telephone network accordingly, I find myself using a mental ¿wtf? many times a day.
