PATTAYA: -- Just after midnight, on Sunday May 8th, Pattaya Police Colonel Sukhatut Poompunmaung received reports that a young, former Thai soldier had attempted suicide at Jomtien Garden Village, Pattaya.

When the police and emergency services arrived at the scene they were informed that twenty-four-year-old Jaruporn Jomsa-nag, a former member of the Royal Thai Army, had been seriously injured after using his father’s .32 calibre pistol to shoot himself in the head on the front doorstep of his home.

Apparently the bullet had missed his brain and exited his forehead instead. Mr Jomsa-nag’s friends, who had heard the incident, promptly rushed him to Pattaya Hospital where he received emergency treatment upon arrival.

Hiding the gun is going to take some explaining.

Sad commentary on the marksmanship training of the Thai army.

Assume all the balconies were full?

Pretty sad example to show as an ex soldier. Unable to hit even a small target at close range.

It appears the action might have been a call for help as many attempted suicides that are not successful are.

Or a very nervous trigger pull that jerked the pistol to one side missing the target area.

I love that the full article includes a picture of the offending gun, but it is pixelated to prevent it being identified but the photo of the soldier is clear as a bell.

Poor lad, hope he recovers.

No need for callous or "funny" comments here people, show some (self) respect.

Drugs?

I wonder if he regrets the 10,000 baht gift now?

How can someone shoot themselves in the head and miss their brain...unless they dont have...ooops sorry, forgot where i am.

Lucky it says ,,Former,, soldier , fancy to have to rely on Soldiers like that to defend the Country.

Shot himself in the head but managed to miss his brain. Interesting. whistling.gif

Whenever you attempt suicide and the job is not completed, you never intended it too be successful! As a Veteran, I know

how to shoot myself in the head. True, he is or was a Thai Soldier, even they should know how to shoot themselves. Do you

know, there are more Generals in Thailand than in the US & China combined? This is a True Statement.

yep, too true.

have dealt with some post trauma self inflicted head shot clients, complicated cases.

Far too many comedians here, who knows what this poor lad has been through. Perhaps he has seen things that still give him nightmares PTSD is a very real and terrible thing.

Or perhaps not...

Hiding the gun is going to take some explaining.

Those from Liverpool might not be familiar with the fact, but if most human beings are shot in the head and the bullet comes out of their forehead it is pretty impossible to miss the brain, unless it is unusually small.

Why are you guys being so cruel and cynical ???

Is it just because he is a Thai ??

We all get "wound up" by Thais .........but there "is" a time when a show of respect is warranted

Terible thing to say but, perhaps the Thai brain is a smaller target than anyone would imagine. Sorry for the guy feeling suicide is the best alternative.

anyone remember gabrielle Giffords(US house of representatives).....shot in the back of the head with bullet exiting front forehead.....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabrielle_Giffords

^ I hope she bought a lottery ticket when she woke up.

"shot in the back of the head with bullet exiting front forehead....."

Wrong!!!!!!

"Doctors who first treated Giffords said the bullet entered the back of her head and exited through the front of her skull, but physicians later concluded that it had traveled in the opposite direction."

i hope he lost conscious. could you imagine having the front of your skull blown off and still being awake?

Impossible as the frontal lobe is responsible for imagination.
