Government cooperates with Thai Airways to sell OTOP products

BAGNKOK, 16 May 2016 (NNT) - The government will be seeking to raise the quality of OTOP products, unveiling new products through the THAI airway's catalogs and Thailand Mall Online to promote the Kindgom's uniqueness to the world.

Prime Minister's Office spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd disclosed that Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha has assigned the Interior Ministry oversee the enhancement of OTOP products, aiming for the local and international markets, promoted through Thai Airways.

The Ministry of the Interior, along with THAI Airways have selected and photographed OTOP products that have shown potential, to be promoted to the international market.

128 products will be showcased in the national carrier's catalogs, as an example of premium grade items. Selected items include ancient Sukothai jewelry, machinery from Liepa cities, and items which personifies the uniqueness of Thai culture.

During the first phase, which has been designated as the month of May, products will go on show in the national carrier's catalogs and through online channels such as the website thailandmall.net.

During the second phase, starting from July 2016, ten products will be available for sale during THAI airways' flights. A store dedicated for selling OTOP products will also begin operating at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The spokesman of the Prime Minister's Office added that the Prime Minister intends to expand the sales channels of OTOP entrepreneurs, because the products are in high demand from international customers, along with the fact that numerous THAI airways passengers are also potential buyers.

The Prime Minister has urged the producers of OTOP products to enrich their items with the Thai cultural identity and ensure that the products are in line with international standards.

Good plan. OTOP was one of the good Thaksin initiatives so now to see it being leveraged by the current government hand in hand with TG to achieve greater potential is a big positive for Thailand. It is not surprising OTOP is in high demand by international customers. I favor buying products with the OTOP label over those without. And improving quality is a welcome direction versus cheapening the products.

Yes Thailand is unique
