TCEB introduces Thailand Big Thanks campaign to attract more Chinese MICE travelers

BANGKOK, 17 May 2016, (NNT) - The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has recently unveiled its Thailand Big Thanks campaign to attract more Chinese for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE).

TCEB President Nopparat Maythaveekulchai expects the campaign to generate more than 92 billion baht, while clarifying that the move is part of TCEB's strategy to promote the Meetings and Incentives (M&I) sector, which involves attendees with high disposable income.

Records show that Thailand welcomed nearly 1.1 million MICE travelers last year, 5% higher than the agency targeted, and generating 95.8 billion baht in revenue. More than half of that number were M&I customers who contributed 44.5 billion baht in revenue.

Chinese made up the largest number of MICE visitors to Thailand, totaling 109,987 with a financial contribution of almost 9.2 billion baht. Chinese MICE visitors outlaid the highest average expenditure per trip in Thailand at 87 billion baht, with Indians and Singaporeans coming second and third, respectively.

Mr. Nopparat explained that Thailand Big Thanks campaigns complement the rising number of Chinese MICE customers in Thailand and added that China is a large MICE market with high growth potential. He said TCEB would work with Thai Embassies in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou to devise plans to penetrate markets there.

As the Dear Leader said to the US Ambassador, "Thailand is not a US colony" True.

But it is fast becoming a Chinese çolony! Chinese factories, Chinese farms, Chinese allowed to buy real estate, Chinese allowed to take up residence in Thailand.

Bangkok has the largest chinese population of any city in the world. Outside of China! I think 6000,000?

Er, check the math.

If as reported the Chinese MICE visitors spent 9.2 billion, and there were 109,987 visitors of this type, their average spending would be 83,646 baht.

This is a reasonable number. The reported "highest average expenditure per trip in Thailand at 87 billion baht" is a crazy number.

Thailand Big Thanks

Have Your Meeting in Thailand

Let us give you a happy handshake.

Do you smell a rat in the MICE figures?

I never heard them say that about us mice.
