Thai poultry raisers and exporters facing difficulties

Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association indicated that Thai poultry raisers and exporters are facing many problems from all sides such as the recurring drought and flood crises, while suggesting them to adapt with the unkind environment for survival.

The association chairman, Md. Anand Sirimongkholkasem, said the cost for raising chickens has soared considerably because of the rising cost of animal feeds as well as the frequent drought and flood occurrences. Besides, they have to deal with the oil price hike and the increasing compensations for laborers, adding that the baht value is currently appreciating. As a result, the prices of chicken meat in Thailand as well as foreign countries have risen simultaneously. However, fierce competitions will not favor the distributors to raise their prices too high, and the poultry stock is still loaded.

However, the association is advising the poultry raisers to find ways to reduce their operational costs, and believes that the exchange rate will gradually improve in the future. The amount of poultry export for this year is expected to be about 280,000 tons, lower than the preceding export forecast of 350,000 tons.
